There’s nothing like going above and beyond for your customers on eBay but providing your buyer with their long lost family isn’t something every seller can boast.
According to Edinburgh Live when Ross Colquhoun bought a match programme for a Hearts v Liverpool game from eBay, he was refunded by the seller who messaged him to explain he was in fact, the dad he’d never met.
Two years later Ross is getting to know his newfound family including sister Erin who he feels like he’s known his entire life. It’s official then, you’ll find just about anything on eBay.
“We laughed, we cried, and we shared stories. It felt like we’d known each other our entire lives.
I was extremely nervous, but it was an absolutely beautiful and life affirming experience.
We talked about our lives and experiences, which seem remarkably similar. Erin studied at Glasgow School of Art, whereas I attended Edinburgh College of Art.
The trepidation is still there, but I’m really looking forward to meeting the family members I’ve yet to meet.”

Just before the pandemic started, without knowing, I bought something on eBay from my Dad, who I’ve never met. He refunded it.
Two years later it’s started me on a journey to get to know my family that I didn’t grow up with. And tonight I met my sister Erin for the first time. pic.twitter.com/uGIFVCLBpX

The post was soon flooded with comments from well-wishers, some of which went on to explain how they too came across long lost family members in unusual ways. The post even caught the attention of eBay themselves.
Although it would be hard to top Ross finding his family through an eBay purchase, we’d love to hear if any of our readers have had similar chance occurrences!
