Live from EXPO 2020 in Dubai, Purple are about to announce a new marketplace, EnableAll, in the livestream below. Watch the announcement and we’ll update this post with a ton more information and how you can sign up for the new marketplace as soon as the live stream ends!
The disability market is untapped and underserved say Purple as they announce the launch of the EnableAll marketplace, coming to the UK in Spring 2020. The headlines are that the consumer spending power of disabled people and their families, (the Purple Pound), equates to £274 billion a year and rising at 14% p.a. Disabled people equate to 22% of the UK population (14.2m) and 15% globally (1 billion) and EnableAll will for the very first time offer a fully accessible marketplace tapping into this pool of customers eager to spend.
You can sign up to become one of the first merchants on the EnableAll marketplace here, and as soon as they are ready to open for sellers you’ll be the first to get access and prepare your listings ready for launch.
22% of the UK population are disabled but you might not realise this as many impairments aren’t visible. Only 8% of disabled population are wheelchair users – 80% of disabled people have hidden disabilities.
83% of disabled people acquire their disability in their lifetime and mental health is the fastest rising impairment. People with, or recovered from cancer, have full rights under UK disability legislation and over 50% of the UK workforce have a disabled relative or someone in their close network.
Perhaps the most important stat is that 75% of disabled people have left a physical premises or clicked away from websites due to poor accessibility and/or customer service.
Satisfying a need
The online world provides a huge opportunity for those wanting to sell into this market. Disabled people want a high quality and frictionless experience. 86% of participants with access needs said they would spend more if websites were more accessible but 90% of screen readers say they are held back from spending online by lack of website accessibility.
75% of participants with access needs have chosen to pay more for a product from an accessible website rather than buy the same product from a website that was less accessible. If you want to get your products in front of this audience then you won’t be competing on price alone, EnableAll will put your products in front of people often willing to pay a premium just for the ability to make an accessible purchase!
The business opportunity offered by EnableAll
The online spending power of people with access needs in the UK is now £24.8 billion. Based on the £24.8 billion Purple know the percentage of disabled people with access needs who will click away from an accessible site is almost 70% and that means the current opportunity can be quantified at £17.1 billion and rising.
86% of users with access needs would spend more if there were fewer barriers. But only 8% who had accessibility issues contacted the site owner about barriers they experienced.
