Online marketplace for ethical products launches in UK

By Lauren Fruncillo September 4, 2021 - 11:35 am

A new online marketplace called Dirty Hippies has launched to support sellers of ethical products and aims to become the No 1. ethical marketplace in the UK.

According to reports, Dirty Hippies was founded by entrepreneur Carl Selby from Christchurch who aims to create a space for ethical buyers and sellers whilst also supporting mental health charities.

Earlier in the year, a study reported that consumers are opting for sustainable products and packaging and with more focus on global warming and how we can make better choices for the planet, consumers are unsurprisingly becoming more concerned about the sources of the products they are buying. Dirty Hippies is interesting because they ask for products to meet at least one of their ethical goal, setting a more realistic plan of heading towards sustainable ecommerce. The criteria is as follows:

  • Carbon Neutral
  • Educational
  • Energy Efficient Production/Use
  • Fairtrade
  • No Single-Use Plastic
  • Organic
  • Recycled/Upcycled/Vintage/Handmade
  • Responsibly Sourced
  • Vegan/Vegetarian/Plant-Based

“I decided to build an online marketplace and app where shoppers can go and be confident that everything they browse has been checked against a list of values.”
– Carl Selby, founder, Dirty Hippies
