Henri-Lloyd direct-to-consumer model supported by 3PL

Established in 1963, Henri-Lloyd sells its own manufactured products online across the world. The multi-award-winning British brand has created its direct-to-consumer model so that customers can permanently enjoy the same products at significantly more affordable prices worldwide. By cutting out all distributors and retailers, Henri-Lloyd will offer outstanding quality at outstanding prices whilst delivering on their sustainability goals.

The direct-to-consumer model is something we expect to see much more of in the future and is really a result of a faltering high street. Henri-Lloyd’s seven UK retail outlets and 20 concessions within House of Fraser were reduced to just five stores in 2018 when Aligro acquired certain stock and assets. Without this rescue, the brand could have vanished entirely.

(Later in 2018, House of Fraser itself was acquired by Sports Direct who it turns out regretted the decision as it turned out to be the basket case everyone thought it was. More recently of course, the pandemic has also seen the end of multiple other High Street brands, some of whom will also be moving to a direct-to-consumer model and mostly online in the near future.)

Although it’s sad to see the state of the High Street, with the notable exception of Primark, the direct-to-consumer model does level the playing field somewhat for online merchants. Whereas in the past the exposure of the High Street was beyond the reach of many brands, once they are online they are playing on the same field as you.

With Henri-Lloyd’s new direct-to-consumer model, Wigan-based 3PL has secured a multi-year partnership to better manage their ecommerce order and logistics supply chain. Throughout the duration of the contract, 3PL will be responsible for managing all aspects of the company’s order fulfilment requirements worldwide, from source to delivery. The contract will take advantage of the 3PL’s extensive expertise in ecommerce fulfilment. The partnership includes warehousing, bespoke pre-retail services, shipping items to customers and an enhanced delivery experience.
