Google Meet is free for all

By Lauren Fruncillo May 5, 2020 - 11:44 am

Google announced last week that they were making their premium video conferencing products free for everyone, with availability rolling out over the coming weeks.

It has become clear over the past couple of months how powerful technology is becoming in connecting people during these uncertain times. Virtual meetings conducted over the internet allow us to stay safe whilst retaining productivity. Video conferencing has brought together a number of people including teammates, healthcare professionals, loved ones and colleagues, and Google are now providing a solution to both professionals and individuals who may benefit from a secure and reliable video conferencing solution by offering their usually premium service Google Meet for free. The ability to create professional video conferences for free could also prove helpful for small businesses who want to keep in contact with employees or clients and is another solution to ease the financial pressures on some small businesses.

“Starting in early May, anyone with an email address can sign up for Meet and enjoy many of the same features available to our business and education users, such as simple scheduling and screen sharing, real-time captions, and layouts that adapt to your preference, including an expanded tiled view.”

How to get Google Meet for free

As Google want to ensure the service remains a secure and reliable experience for all who use it starting from next week they will be gradually expanding its availability to allow more and more people to join throughout the month. This means you might not be able to create meetings at right away, but you can sign up to be notified when it’s available.

“Our approach to security is simple: make products safe by default. We designed Meet to operate on a secure foundation, providing the protections needed to keep our users safe, their data secure, and their information private.”
