Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme rules relaxed

By Chris Dawson April 15, 2020 - 5:05 pm

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme rules have been relaxed to take into account employees who only recently joined the company they work for.

Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme – Who can claim (Rules as per 9th April)

You must have:

  • created and started a PAYE payroll scheme on or before 28 February 2020
  • enrolled for PAYE online – this can take up to 10 days
  • a UK bank account

Any entity with a UK payroll can apply, including businesses, charities, recruitment agencies and public authorities.

Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme – Who can claim (Rules as per 15th April)

You must have:

  • created and started a PAYE payroll scheme on or before 19 March 2020
  • enrolled for PAYE online
  • a UK bank account

Any entity with a UK payroll can apply, including businesses, charities, recruitment agencies and public authorities.

What this means is that employees hired right up to the date of lock down can be furloughed rather than made redundant. However, an RTI submission notifying payment in respect of that employee to HMRC must have been made on or before 19 March 2020 in order for the employee to qualify.

It should be noted that the online service you’ll use to claim grants for furloughed workers is not available yet. HMRC expect it to be available by the end of April. 2020.

The above is NOT accurate the portal opens on the 20th april there capacity to handle 400k applicants at once so shouldn’t crash
