Carrefour to sell Rue du Commerce marketplace to Shopinvest

French supermarket retailer Carrefour has announced that they are ready to sell Rue du Commerce, the marketplace they only acquired three years ago in 2016. They have received a firm offer from Shopinvest for the acquisition of 100% of the share capital of Rue du Commerce.

On completion, Rue du Commerce, a marketplace which specialises in the sale of high-tech products in France, will join Shopinvest, an ecommerce group founded in 2011, which operates a portfolio of 11 sites, including 3Suisses.

Rue du Commerce was founded in 2009 as a French marketplace which started out concentrating on consumer electronics but it has since broadened its horizons to welcome a broader selection of goods. They have a total customer base of 9 million and 6 million unique visitors per month. Notably, the average spend is quite high at €180. It’s estimated that there are only around 750 merchants selling on the marketplace so there is plenty of room for growth under the new ownership.

Karine Schrenzel and Olivier Gensburger co-founded Shopinvest in 2011. The couple is experiencing growth which places them today as one of the only profitable and significant players in France’s ecommerce landscape. Their 11 specialized e-commerce sites are leaders in their respective markets, dedicated to fashion, cosmetics and the home. They have grown through the creation of sites like MenCorner, the acquisition of specialised websites such as LemonCurve and the purchase of iconic brands, such as 3Suisses in November 2018.
