OnBuy announce new focus on Refurbished Electronics

By Chris Dawson October 16, 2019 - 8:00 am

OnBuy are to provide more choice for its customers with the introduction of a dedicated department for refurbished electronics for the first time, following a significant increase in demand. This move comes as consumers are increasingly realising the advantages of buying refurbished products with both sustainability and cost being key drivers and will give them access to top branded products at brilliant prices.

This initiative to drive sales for sellers and further enhance the buyer experience comes as part of the marketplace’s recent announcement that they were seeking a second round of investment funding to capitalise on immediate growth opportunities, topping up their previous funding round of £2.7m.

OnBuy’s Refurbished Electronics will be supported by an integrated marketing campaign to ensure large consumer reach alongside a substantial retailer drive to onboard additional refurbished products. Products will be in full working order with a warranty and will span everything from refurbished electronics including headphones, laptops and TVs, to household appliances such as vacuum cleaners and toasters, to toys including drones and scooters.

“This additional focus on refurbished products is part of our ongoing evolution and underpins our commitment to creating a fairer, more transparent marketplace that puts its buyers and sellers first. We recognised that our sellers have hidden gems and will be offering refurbished products from top brands for incredible prices. This will benefit both our sellers and buyers and further fuel the exponential growth which has seen us become one of the fastest-growing marketplaces in the world.”
– Cas Paton, founder, OnBuy

Mmm… So “All sellers have been carefully handpicked and vetted by OnBuy” and you “carefully handpicked” Swift deals as your partner-in-crime to rip off your customers with their 222,191 listings?

The good news for your customers is the fast and speedy service they get from an Amazon Prime seller they have never heard of, the down side is they have to pay an extra 60%+ for the product.

The above has been repeatedly mentioned on here for the last 18months-2 years, which makes me think that maybe Swift Deals & OnBuy have a closer relationship than other sellers using OnBuy.

      Hi Tyler,

Thank you for your comment. Feedback – good or bad! – is always appreciated by us as it helps us identify any areas we can improve on.

Sellers are not only welcome, but actively invited to list and price competitively against sellers that simply re-buy products. We do not actively promote listings that we know to be noncompetitive, and we make comparing sellers on the product page easy so buyers can make an informed choice as to who they buy from. The fact that sellers operating this way can be successful on OnBuy demonstrates OnBuy’s ability.

As a company, we’ve chosen to allow these sellers to establish our product range for the benefit of future sellers while aggressively marketing for sellers to join OnBuy and, enabled by our competitive fees, offer better pricing on these products – which will ultimately drive sales.

We would like to assure you that we have no association with SwiftDeals beyond the fact they are selling through our marketplace.

We hope this has been useful and would like to thank you again for your feedback.
