Canon are the latest player to join Alibaba’s China Gateway Programme – following a growing list of 80-plus countries that have already opted into Alibaba Group’s cloud-computing arm with businesses including Shiseido, WeWork, Chemist Warehouse and Ford – in an effort to scale up in the world’s second-largest economy.

The manoeuvre will see the Japanese imaging-solutions provider leveraging the programme to support their growth in South Asia. The service will manage Canon’s business nuances including their online-to-offline integration, digital marketing and data analysis to improve their customer experience in China.

“Innovation is happening everywhere in the China market. Alibaba Cloud has become one of the most important platforms to support business-driven innovation, especially based on the internet.”
– Ehara Taisei, vice president, Canon China.

This March saw Alibaba Group introducing The China Gateway Program to offer international companies a suite of cross-border compliance, security and networking products to support their existing operations in China with their offices worldwide. The programme boasts pre-build services including payments, ecommerce and logistics applications to enable retailers, merchants and brands expand beyond their borders to bag sales overseas.

“We would like to support more customers to innovate in China and transfer their successes to other parts of the world. We are happy to see an increasing number of customers who innovate with us, and accelerate their global digitalization process with that success.”
– Selina Yuan, president, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence International.
