Zalando new fulfilment centre to support growth in Western Europe
Zalando have announced the scheduled launch of a new fulfilment centre in the Netherlands to support the expanding logistics network in Western Europe.
The move will see Zalando setting the group for their 2023-2024 target to “continuously improve [their] customer proposition.”
In the summer of 2019, Zalando will start construction on their first Dutch fulfilment centre in an existing business park in Bleiswijk, near Rotterdam. The Bleiswijk fulfilment centre will cater to customers in Western Europe, namely the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Spain and the United Kingdom.
The site will have a floor area of 140,000 square meters and a total storage capacity of 16 million items. The first parcels are set to be delivered from Bleiswijk in the summer of 2021. About 1,500 jobs will be created in the mid-term.
The development is being undertaken by a joint venture of Somerset Capital Partners and USAA Realco-Europe. Once the fulfilment centre is ramped up to full speed, Zalando aim to reduce delivery lead times in Benelux markets.
Zalando attributes the expansion to their aim of doubling revenues in Western Europe. The opening of the fulfilment center in Bleiswijk is key in enabling this growth.
The marketplace aim to manifest this mission by attracting consumers with next and same-day delivery once Bleiswijk is fully operational.
