eBay UK Seller Release Spring 2019 – Offer to buyers

By Chris Dawson February 26, 2019 - 1:32 pm

A new Offer to buyers feature in Seller Hub will let you send offers to potential buyers for some of your listings. Being able to target buyers who are already interested in your items (typically by adding your item to their eBay Watched List) could help you increase sales and prompt customers into a purchase.

Your listing doesn’t need to include the Best Offer feature for you to be able to send an offer to buyers.

Buyers who receive the offer will be notified that other watchers can still buy the item and should take advantage while they can. The offers will expire after 48 hours and buyers can opt out of receiving them by changing their communication preferences.

This is an entirely optional feature, but one which makes a lot of sense to use, especially as with the duration change to only Good ‘Til Cancelled durations also announced today. If you have aged listings which haven’t had a sale in a while, even a single sale can boost your listing up the Best Match ranks. Giving a little profit away to attract a potential buyer can reinvigorate the listing and attract even more sales so be generous with your offers so long as you have margin to play with.

eBay are rolling out this feature to Seller Hub sellers in phases and expect the “Offer to buyers” will be available to all business sellers by April. You can also send offers to buyers via MyeBay from the active listings page.

Eligibility is determined by a number of factors, including age of listing, listing format, and rules that manage the number of offers buyers receive. eBay may expand eligibility criteria over time so if you don’t see any eligible listings check regularly to see if more Offer to Buyers opportunities become available.

If this feature has been enabled on your account and you have eligible listings, you’ll find the Offer to buyers feature in the Listings tab of Seller Hub. What we’d like to see is a bulk Offers to Buyers automation tool to enable sellers to send offers en masse to selected sets of listings, perhaps by category, price range, or time elapsed since the last sale.

Only see one issue with this, I currently add to my watch list many of my competitors listings does this mean that they will see my username when selecting which buyers to send an offer to?

I have reviewed the listing tab in my seller hub although do not see the option yet.

Doesn’t look like it. But I woud recommend adding your competitors to your browsers bookmarks or notepad rather than watch list, eBay uses watch list as part of listing ranking so you might be helping your competitors sales!

Never thought of it like that, thank you Paolo

Good idea this. I used to have a Markdown sale of 25% as often as I could, which was a continuous 14 days almost immediately one after the other, until Ebay restricted this to a 14 day gap between sales. This new idea will allow me to, in effect ,offer 25% discounts as and when I wish, continuously.
