New requirements for selling medicine on eBay
As part of eBay‘s cooperation with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) there will be a new enforcement of an eBay Medicine and Healthcare products policy. This means that from the 21st of January 2019, if you sell over the counter medicine on eBay you’ll have to be registered with the MHRA (which you already should be anyway).
Business sellers offering online medicines are required:
- to be registered with the MHRA; and
- to display the EU common logo by including the link to the MHRA register approval page on each listing offering medicines.
You can find more information on the MHRA guidance page where you can register to sell a medicine to the public over the internet and qualify to display the Distance Selling logo.
As of the 21st of January 2019, any seller that does not comply with the above requirements will be prohibited from selling medicines on eBay.
eBay haven’t specified what enforcement steps they will be taking, but it will be reasonable to assume that if your listings don’t fully comply by the 21st of January that they will be scanning listings selling medicine on eBay and taking them down.
I would be very grateful if I could get the email address of the alternative remedies category, because this is where the issues are.
I am fed up with having my listings for a perfectly compliant product removed. Instead of freaking witnessing sales of illegal drugs, I would prefer to happily mind my business !
lol. a perfectly reasonable request for any other website it may seem, not for ebay, ebay have no interest in your opinions.
if you want to get in touch with anyone at ebay, go to the help section, contact, read a bunch of irrelevent FAQ’s, go back and try other options until it eventually presents you with a phone number. phone it and wait on hold, speak to an answer machine that doesn’t understand anything you say (and isn’t needed since you phoned a specific number to speak to a specific department), fly into a rage and scream at the answering machine, get transferred to the wrong department who will offer to transfer you to the right people and then hang up on you. repeat until dead.
1 word missing: the category MANAGER
Thanks James. I was enjoying a good pint when your comment showed up so could hardly remember any rage and scream but apart from this agree with everything you said.
I am hoping for a miracle and someone willing to speak. After all, it might be in the interest of the relevant manager to get information about what is going on while they cooperate with the MHRA.
