Magento 1 support to run until June 2020

By Chris Dawson September 13, 2018 - 12:54 pm

There were some erroneous reports flying around the Internet that Magento 1 support would end this November. These reports were false but based on Magento originally announced November 2018 as end of life for Magento 1, but later announcing extended support with a promise of 18 months notice before Magento 1 is retired.

Magento had not given notice so with still at least a year and a half to go there was uncertainty as to how long support would last. Now Magento have, probably triggered by the false reporting, announced that Magento 1 support will continue until June 2020.

“For Magento Commerce 1, we are providing software support through June 2020. Depending on your version, software support may include both quality fixes and security patches.

For Magento Open Source 1, we are providing software security patches through June 2020 to ensure those sites remain secure and compliant.

Please be aware that security maintenance applies only to Magento Open Source software and does not apply to third party extensions or customizations.

Maintenance of extensions, customization or other modifications to the Magento codebase, including compliance with security and privacy standards (PCI, SOC, ISO, etc.), are the express responsibility of the merchant.”

Many merchants will already have upgraded to Magento 2 and Magento continue to encourage migrating to their newest offering.

“While we remain committed to older versions of Magento, shoppers continue to push for the newest and most compelling online experiences. That’s why now is a great time to graduate to Magento Commerce 2.”

We are glad that Magento itself has steppe forward to clear the air. We were going crazy along with clients here.

    Ah… A sigh of a relief.
