eBay UK Autumn Seller Release:
eBay Seller Hub Marketing Tools

Today eBay announce the ability for sellers to create new type of self serve coupon to attract repeat buyers in eBay Seller Hub Marketing. You’ll be able to use them to market you eBay listings to your customers and they’ll be easily shareable across non-eBay sites as well as postage inserts.

eBay are also encouraging sellers to review existing promos as they will change how they are presented to buyers by showing only the most relevant to buyers. In essence, eBay will suppress promotions which aren’t very good offers and only display those promotions that eBay consider to be a good offer. The way to think about this is when you view a promotion would you consider it to be compelling? For instance offering ‘Buy 2 laptops, save £5’ isn’t likely to be displayed in the future, whereas a ‘15% off weekend sale’ is likely to be displayed.

Self Serve coupons

Later this year, eBay will offer a new way to offer discounts to your customers, with the launch of Self-Serve Coupons. These promotional coupons can be set up by you in eBay Seller Hub Marketing to offer a discount conditional to the use of the unique coupon code at checkout on any selection of your inventory. There is a limit on how many times the same customer can redeem the discount and a cap on the savings they can make.

The benefits of using these Self-Serve Coupons

  • Your unique landing page

A page will be created for your coupon, displaying all of the included inventory.

  • Easily shareable

You’ll be able to share your coupon and landing page on your social media and in marketing communications, as well as in postage inserts.

  • Encourages repeat buyers

The coupons can easily be used in postage inserts to drive repeat purchases to your business.

  • Track and measure

It’s possible to monitor the coupon performance so you can see where your buyers are coming from.

You’ll be able to try out the new Self-Serve Coupons this Autumn. To set up your own coupon, select ‘Promotions’ in the Seller Hub and then ‘Create a promotion-coupons’. The easy steps will guide you through how to add your inventory.

Offer Visibility

eBay say that their research shows that displaying offers with low relevance to buyers leads to lower conversions overall. All sellers who use eBay Seller Hub Marketing promotions on eBay benefit when great promotions are displayed. Therefore, to improve the quality of promotions on eBay and provide a better shopping experience for your buyers, only the most relevant promotions will now be prominently visible in the top banner of the View Item page.

eBay say that to make sure you don’t miss out, give your offers a higher chance of being displayed prominently on the View Item page by following eBay best practice guidelines. Regardless of your promotion relevancy, all offers will still receive a module lower on the View Item page, and a full offer page, which buyers will see when they click on “see all eligible items” on the banner or module. You’ll be able to use this page in your marketing as it will contain only your inventory involved in a promotion.

As a buyer I would like to see all offers and trust my own judgement about what I consider is a 'good' offer thank you. The idea that eBay systems can work this out when their basic search function has been bust for years is simply risible. As a seller we will not be participating in this nonsense as we have better ways to spend our time than playing the eBay promotion lottery.

If anyone can get any promotion to show please let us know. I have tried I think them all, even buy 1 get 1 free does not show on the listing page. The old offer that we have now removed as they are not seen, use to do so well and increase sale massively for us. I have tried all the offer eBay recommended, and still, they don't show. Searching and looking at seller selling in the same categories as me have offers I have tried showing. So it also seems to work for some seller but not all sellers. So confusing and time wasting.

Rich, I have the same problem with any promotion I currently try to run. I think you could offer 100% off and it would still not show as a promotion. As ebay are/have been doing beta testing which removes any banners and puts them at the bottom of the page. The buyer finds out they receive a promotion when they get to the checkout after they have already committed to paying the buy it now price, so absolutely pointless running a promotion. Its funny how the big companies like Superdry can still run promotions with banners at the top of the page and have strikethrough pricing yet others can't.

I am having the same problems with using the promotion tools, very hit and miss. We used to do well with a £5 off when you buy three items but this has just dive bombed due to it not being seen. As Rob said, I too have been told thy are running beta testing, many promotions are being shown at the bottom of the page, who looks there? They used to show them above the main image which encouraged people to spend more.

Rob, Tyler. Same here eBay said they are testing, and that most offers should show, but I must have tried every single promotion we have available and nothing shows, sometimes they show in the footer of the page. As you say no one is going to be looking there. I did notice it was working for a seller who had many duplicate listing, all images are wording on them with UK flags. Typical the promotion show for this seller. I did ask eBay why, and they ignored it. I can see it is working the old way for outlets also. We are paying for these tools each month, and we can not use them as intended. Why don't eBay just remove the promotion that they say don't work and course a buyer to leave the site. It does seem that the promotion tools work for some sellers, but not others.
