PayPal extend agreement to offer PayPal Credit on eBay

By Chris Dawson July 9, 2018 - 11:00 am

eBay and PayPal have extended their credit agreement in which eBay will continue to accept and promote PayPal Credit on their Marketplace platform.

“As part of our strong partnership with PayPal, we are pleased to continue to offer PayPal Credit to the millions of consumers who transact on the eBay platform.”
– Alyssa Cutright, Vice President of Payments, eBay

PayPal Credit, PayPal’s proprietary online consumer financing product, offers eBay shoppers choice and flexibility in how they pay, giving the ability to spread payments over a period of time. eBay has offered PayPal Credit to its buyers since 2008 and this signals that although eBay are to move away from PayPal to Adyen for eBay Payments they will still be closely tied to PayPal.

It’s worth remembering that Adyen do offer PayPal as a payment option in addition to a wide range of other payment services. With the number of eBay buyers (just about all of them in most countries) already using PayPal there is a good chance that many will simply opt to carry on using a payment system they are already familiar with and intertia and lack of need is something eBay will need to get consumers past to sign up to eBay Payments directly with their own banking credentials.

“Providing the best payment experiences to our shared customers is at the core of everything we do. We look forward to offering an unmatched range of consumer financing options for eBay customers through PayPal Credit.”
– Mark Britto, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Global Credit, PayPal

Whilst PayPal have signed an agreement to continue to offer credit directly on eBay listings, Adyen also offer alternatives such as Klarna which may or may not be offered through eBay payments.
