Pricesearcher adds Nigeria as 11th supported country

By Chris Dawson April 16, 2018 - 9:49 am

Pricesearcher, which is already available within 10 countries, is now also available in Nigeria. Other countries the product search engine is available in are Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Sweden, the UK and the US.

Pricesearcher’s were initially approached by a Nigerian Country Representative at the GS1 Global Conference who expressed an interest in the product search engine and enquired about a launch in Nigeria.

“It was explained to us that there was a need for Pricesearcher in Nigeria, as currently there is nothing like it. Nigerian consumers are always looking for best value on price, and a wider selection from retailers – but as Google doesn’t have a shopping tab out there, it can be difficult.”
– Sam Dean, Founder and CEO, Pricesearcher

Beyond South Africa, Google Shopping is not available anywhere else on the African continent. Google Shopping was available in 42 countries worldwide by the end of 2017, and the platform is now into its 15th year. With Pricesearcher now into its second year of existence they will consider expanding into any market where there is a consumer need and retail growth.

“We currently have product feeds for half of the online retailers in Nigeria we know about. While this is still a work in progress, this will be one of the first opportunities Nigerian consumers will have to measure online prices against each other, and it is also significant as the rollout demonstrates Pricesearcher’s ability to research and implement at speed into new territories.”

Nigeria now has the largest economy in Africa, with an estimated GDP of $413.7billion in 2017, and also the biggest population – 196 million in 2017. According to a new report published by Nigeria’s largest online retailer, Jumia, there is now 150 million mobile users in Nigeria, and 97.2 million internet users. Early consumer interaction on Pricesearcher indicates that there is a focus on lower-cost products, particularly within consumer technology category, so there might well be an opportunity for such retailers to increase their sales in this region.

“I like to challenge what we do here at Pricesearcher, and it keeps things interesting when there is so much going on. Our task was to see if we could expand into a totally unknown / off-road map country and index them. Further to our initial conversations, when the Representatives for Nigerian Commerce asked us about timeframe, I told them Pricesearcher will be there in less than a month. We were there within 2 weeks.”
– Sam Dean, Founder and CEO, Pricesearcher

You can now upload your shopping feed to Nigeria and to any of Pricesearcher’s 11 listed countries.
