Devin Wenig to join General Motors Board of Directors

By Chris Dawson April 23, 2018 - 10:17 am

General Motors have announced the election of eBay President and CEO Devin Wenig to its Board of Directors. The election of Devin to the board’s slate of nominees will bring General Motors’s Board of Directors to 11 members, 10 of whom are non-employee directors.

“Devin brings significant expertise in technology, global operations and strategic planning to our board. His experience in customer-facing roles and insights into digital marketplaces will enhance our current and future business priorities at a critical time in the company’s journey.”
– Mary Barra, General Motors Chairman and CEO

You might wonder why someone as busy as Devin would take on additional directorships, but it actually makes sense. Think of it as work related professional development, giving exposure to a new industry with different but similar challenges. I woudn’t go so far as to describe it as a hobby, but it’s definitely an opportunity to pursue your professional passions as well as expanding your network and getting exposure to technology in a different environment.

“My professional passion is the application of disruptive technology to drive positive change and help people. The transportation sector is going through enormous changes. I’m honored to be joining the Board of General Motors to serve Mary Barra and the great 200k men and women who make it rev!”
– Devin Wenig, eBay President and CEO

Devin will stand for election at GM’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders on the 12th of June 2018. There’s very little doubt that he will be elected as these things are more a formality with the decision already made.

In addition to the eBay Board and now the General Motors board, Devin is a Co-Chair of the Governors of the Consumer Industries for the World Economic Forum, a member of the Business Council, and a trustee of the Paley Media Center.

Wonder if GM realise they’ve just ensured the destruction of their own company hiring this snake oil salesman. bye bye GM.

Great. The future of Ebay and millions of sellers is in the hands of a part-timer.

    You couldn’t make it up.

    BOYS CLUB!

Has he not always been a part timer? A deluded one at that.
