eBay Launches ‘Shop the Celebrity Look’ powered by AI

eBay‘s investment in Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues with their new Shop the Celebrity Look immersive shopping experience. The new experience allows consumers to buy products direct from photos of celebrity influencers – either the exact item they are wearing or cheaper alternatives.

Similar to their recent Mashable partnership, Shop the Celebrity Look is another expansion of eBay’s AI engine matching clothes and accessories the featured celebs are wearing with products available on eBay.

How can you get involved?

It’s important to note that this isn’t a pre-selected set of products on offer from eBay’s favoured sellers, this is a genuine match from eBay search but with AI pulling up the exact items worn by the celebrity, or finding similar items from eBay’s marketplace to suit all budgets.

We checked a few items and (were actually surprised but pleased) to find Giovanna Fletcher’s top matched to an eBay listing from a brand new business seller with just forty (yes, four zero) feedback.

This suggests that any seller has a chance of their products being included, but to do so you’ll need clear images and almost certainly to complete eBay’s product data and item specific. Certainly these measures can only increase the chances of eBay’s AI engine finding a match with your listings.

The new Shop the Celebrity Look pilot is in partnership with consumer magazine and digital platform Time Inc. By applying Time Inc’s exclusive content to eBay’s AI technology and inventory – eBay have created a unique and memorable shopping experience that speaks to its audience.

Each article will be based on a particular trend and feature four shoppable images of celebrities sporting the style. Using eBay’s adapted ‘Shop the Look’ technology launched in 2016, consumers will be able to hover over the celebrity images and click on the shopping tags to find the matching items on eBay, or affordable alternatives.

This launch is a global first for the marketplace and is part of eBay’s ongoing commitment to building an engaging and creative shopping experience for its consumers.
