ManoMano DIY marketplace increased revenues 180% in 2017
Have you ever heard of the DIY marketplace ManoMano? It’s a European online marketplace specialising in DIY & gardening supplies. And it has reported that in 2017 it enjoyed global turnover of €250 and that’s an increase of 180% year on year. In the UK turnover doubled over the course of the year.
Co-founder Christian Raisson says that the UK operation has beaten all targets and expectations saying: “It demonstrates the real need for digital pure-players in the DIY and garden industry”. In September 2017 the company raised €60 million in a Series C funding led by growth equity firm General Atlantic. That money has fuelled expansion. The UK marketplace opened in 2016.
So what is ManoMano? You can find out more here. But they say:
ManoMano is a marketplace, a trustworthy intermediary between you and the seller who sells their products on our site. We do not own any stock and we do not handle logistics: the sellers send your products directly to you.
ManoMano is open for business to DIY enthusiasts in France, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Spain, Italy and Germany. Apparently they have a network of 2,000 sellers who predominantly sell internationally as well as to their domestic market. The company says that they sell over 1.6 million different products and have roughly 1 million regular shoppers. Certainly a brief review of the site shows a creditable range of products and goods.
Admittedly, ManoMano is a new marketplace for Tamebay but it’s a great example of a specialist marketplace that is growing and developing a dedicated following. Certainly the DIY, gardening and domestic beautification market is a huge sector and a niche offering makes sense. It’s also hands off. Fulfilment is dealt with by sellers and, interestingly, payments are processed by Adyen, which will also soon be dealing with payments for eBay.
Have you sold anything on ManoMano and how is the selling experience there?
ManoMano is an absolute wonder, we sell 3 times as much in France as on Amazon and all other territories are growing steadily. We have been selling on ManoMano since before it changed its name from Monechelle a few years ago and have a great relationship with them now that will help us expand in the other territories and build our brands.
