Marketplaces 2018: Yumbles

By Dan Wilson January 17, 2018 - 9:10 pm

This post about Yumbles is part of Tamebay’s January 2018 Marketplaces series sponsored by Flubit. To find a full list of marketplaces we’ve written about this month, visit our Marketplaces 2018 page here.

Web address: https://www.yumbles.com

Marketplace Overview

Yumbles is a British, curated marketplace connecting food lovers with the UK’s best small batch independent food and drink producers across the country. It was founded by husband and wife team Simos Kitiris and Katie Kitiri who both have backgrounds in various online marketplaces and technology businesses. They claim to have 9937 unique products for sale from more than 1799 makers. It’s not known how much traffic they get or how many shoppers regularly use the site although they do playfully say that Yumbles shoppers collectively consume ten million calories a week from products they buy on the marketplace.

They say of their aim: “We’re on a mission to champion passionate small batch producers like you and see your business flourish. We take care of the e-commerce challenge leaving you to do what you do best – make show stopping food.”

Seller registration and requirements

Yumbles is a curated marketplace and registration is by application. They say that there are a number of things they are looking for in potential sellers including originality, all natural produce, carefully and ethically sourced ingredients, great quality photos of the food (not just packaging) and foods not widely distributed. You can apply to sell here.

There are no registration, subscription or listing fees. Commissions are simple. The selling fee fee is 18% + 30p (subject to VAT) per order. This fee is applied across the gross or total order value (i.e. product charges + shipping charge). Your earnings are disbursed monthly via bank transfer automatically.

Product listings and fulfilment

Once selected you can upload your listings to Yumbles using an online form. You fulfil your orders yourself and tracking isn’t compulsory.

Tamebay’s take on Yumbles

Yumbles is a good looking site that plugs into lots of trends. It’s a niche marketplace and we think specialist and honed shopping experiences are going to be more important in future. It focusses on high end quality goods that you might not otherwise be able to get hold of in your area. It also speaks to the trend for excellent quality food and buying directly from producers. It’s also a good looking website that is a pleasure to shop on. That said, it has yet make a massive splash and greater awareness is desperately needed if it’s going to fulfil its possible potential and become a go-to shopping destination for foodies.

If you have you any experience selling on Yumbles, please do share your insights.
