Amazon started as online book store and has grown to be the worlds largest online retailer.
Amazon.com launches under $10 range with free shipping
Without fanfare, Amazon.com has launched a new section of the site and range of products aimed to appeal to price conscious shoppers. The new section is stocked with goods that are all under $10 and all come with free shipping. You can find the section here. It is also available on the IoS app.
The new section organises a variety of low-cost products by category, including by Women’s, Men’s, Electronics, Gifts, Home Décor, Household, and Watches. There’s also a section called “Hello 2018!” which contains products which can be used to fulfil your new year’s resolutions.
There’s a pretty good selection of items but on these terms they’re unlikely to be the best quality merchandise. But there is clearly a market for such deals and goods, as the popularity of low cost shopping app Wish has demonstrated. It’s also a new horizon for Amazon to appeal more broadly to bargain hunters.
It will be interesting to see if this initiative crosses the Atlantic and offers something similar on Amazon in Europe. Often features that start on Amazon.com are rolled out globally. However, it’s hard to say whether a below £10 range with free postage would have equal appeal. We’ll see what happens in due course.
