Same day courier delivery service
Currys PC World offer timed deliveries with On the dot
The UK’s largest electrical retailer Currys PC World have partnered with On the dot to launch a new same-day delivery service across the UK. Introduced nationwide, the new fulfilment offering is designed to make shopping with Currys PC World stores quicker and more convenient than ever before.
Customers opting for same-day deliveries will be able to select a two-hour delivery timeslot of their choice that day, between 12pm-10pm. Same-day timeslots will automatically be displayed upon checkout to eligible customers: those placing an order for a small item before 4pm . The new service, which runs 7 days a week and costs customers £9.95, is available to shoppers within a 10-mile radius of one of 242 Currys PC World stores across the UK.
Who wins – Currys PC World or On the dot?
It’s difficult to see who is getting most out of this new partnership. Currys PC World need to be able to compete with the likes of Argos and Amazon who both have fantastic delivery options. Currys PC World can now offer the equivalent of Amazon Prime Now, but not in restricted areas of the country – On the dot have nationwide coverage with the notable exception of the idyllic Isle of Wight where I spent my childhood and most of the North and East of Scotland above Glasgow and Aberdeen.
“At Currys PC World, we pride ourselves on helping our customers get it right when it comes to purchasing electrical items and home appliances. From small screen televisions to microwave ovens, it’s important we get their purchase to them wherever they want it, when they want it. We’re excited to be partnering with On the dot to introduce same day delivery, meaning our customers now have a suite of delivery options available to them, both online and in-store.”
– Stuart Ramage, eCommerce Director at Currys PC World
For On the dot it’s a great opportunity to raise their profile with shoppers. Whilst they offer a unique and useful service they’re still not a household name in the way that the next day courier companies are. Having a top retailer like Currys PC World offering their service will ensure that other large retailers notice them and may also consider signing up.
Of course you don’t have to be a large retailer to offer a same day timed delivery with On the dot – they have a self service offering which anyone and everyone can offer so if, especially at this time of year, a customer wants to make a large purchase why not offer to have the item delivered to their house when they’ve completed their shopping trip – it might win you a sale.
Dixons already has a fairly good delivery system which has been in-place for a few years now. They dropped DX for example, and started with their own in-house system “knowhow” guys.
Anyway it is AO they need to compete with I think, Argos are mince and overpriced compared to both Dixons and AO.
We use AO all the time these days, better value we know when we are getting delivered also I have tenants so it is really useful as were always getting appliances put in and there not bright so we have to pay to get them installed, AO are better value than Dixons.
Legacy issues Dixons still suffer from.
They haven’t traded under the Dixons brand for years, if you mean Currys, say Currys.
