eBay Customer Support disrupted by storm Ophelia in Ireland

By Dan Wilson October 16, 2017 - 11:09 pm

Ireland has been whipped by storm Ophelia today and there has been significant disruption. Parts of Britain and Northern Ireland will doubtless continue to be impacted over the next day or so. And one service that has seen disruption is eBay Customer Support. See the message above. It has also been noted that PayPal customer support hasn’t been running at full capacity either.

This is hardly surprising. Electricity, roads and transport have all struggled under the pressure of the bad weather. It looks like, when it comes to eBay Customer Support, that team members simply couldn’t make it into work and that’s reasonable under the circumstances.

The Irish postal service, An Post, also announced that they would be closing branches across the Republic at noon owing to the violent weather.

In a tweet at 09:40 they said: “National post office network will close all offices from midday #StormOphelia some offices already disrupted as storm nears.”

In a release An Post said that deliveries had also be significantly disrupted and all would be suspended on Monday: “Mail delivery and collection services have been suspended everywhere except for counties: Dublin, Meath, Westmeath, Leitrim, Louth, Longford, Cavan, Roscommon and Monaghan. In these counties, services will cease before 12 Noon to ensure staff safety.” On Monday night they added to their statement and confirmed they would be doing their best on Tuesday now the worst has passed. Find their comment here.

And as Ophelia presses north we will doubtless see problems in Northern Ireland, Scotland and parts of Northern England too. We hope that eBay will apply common sense, as it did in the USA in the face of horrific storms, and make due allowances when it comes to delivery times, problems and delays. Doubtless eBay Customer support staff personally affected by the wild weather will show understanding when they deal with claims of late delivery from sellers lashed by Ophelia.

    NEWSFLASH ?
“eBay Customer Support disrupted by storm Ophelia in Ireland”

You THINK?, SERIOUSLY??. I would have said it was disrupted YEARS ago, and as such is non-existent.

You can report cases of fraud & shill bidding to eBay CS, AKA “The 3 wise monkeys”, and they will do?…ABsolutely nothing, except “sound” concerned (while laughing their socks off, I suspect)

eBay have a forum, and a loyal following (known as the “rah rah brigade”, who will defend “all things” eBay policy, to the DEATH, and eBay make this easy with the joke that is the 14 point “Guidelines”, the T’s & C’s of you using the forum, and it’s very much open to the interpretation of the “Mods” who police it. These “Guard dogs” (of eBay) have the power to edit or remove NOT ONLY your post, but remove you from the forum, for anything from 1,440 minutes (honestly, minutes not a day) to 4,320, 10,080, 43,200 minutes, to a lifetime ban. And what of these Guidelines?, well…see for yourself, and remember…open to interpretation.

The eBay Community is a place where eBay Community members can connect, learn and share experiences and best practices with one another. By participating in the eBay Community, you agree to act in accordance with the Community Guidelines and the eBay User Agreement. These principles exist to ensure that the Community continues to provide the support you need as you sell and buy on eBay. As a Community, we are committed to creating a useful, respectful, and enjoyable destination for all members. You can find more information on how to best use the Community in our Tips for Posting article.

Most importantly, we hope you enjoy taking part in the Community and we’re glad you’re here!

    Community Guidelines

Community is a peer to peer support community.
While eBay employees will be on the discussion boards from time to time, the Community is not a dedicated customer service channel. This is a peer-to-peer support community – inclusive of sellers, buyers and eBay employees. It is a place to get tips and advice from Community members. If you require assistance directly from eBay Customer Support, please visit our Customer Support portal via the Help & Contact link.

    Help keep the Community clean.
It’s up to Community members to report inappropriate behavior. If you see any offensive, abusive, or otherwise inappropriate content (including posts, pictures and videos), please click on the “Report Inappropriate Content” link that is attached to the post or private message. This will alert the moderators and they can look into the issue. We do ask that you only submit one report per post. eBay will not discuss actions taken on a user with any other user. The reporting function is anonymous.

Only persons aged 18 or over may post to the Community boards, even in cases where the account is owned by an adult. This is related to eBay’s Underage Users policy, for more information, click here.

Be respectful. Content that is harmful, hostile, threatening, abusive, baiting, vulgar, defamatory, harassing, or includes hate or racist speech, name calling or profanity will be edited or removed. Read more about our Profanity policy here; information on our Threats of Bodily Harm policy is available here.

Do not post obscene, vulgar or pornographic content. This includes media and text.

Avoid duplicate, repetitive or disruptive threads and posts. Members should only post one thread per topic on the most relevant board for the issue or question. Topics or posts that are duplicative or disruptive may be removed without notice.

Do not abuse helpfuls. This includes soliciting others for helpfuls, giving an excessive number of helpfuls to a specific user or users, using multiple accounts to give yourself or others multiple helpfuls, and marking another member’s posts as helpful to help them get to the top of leaderboards.

No naming and shaming. We will not tolerate posting about listing or member violations. Item numbers, auction links, negative/neutral feedback scores, other members’ ID or contact information posted for the purpose of shaming another member will be edited or removed. Read more about this policy here.

Keep private interactions confidential. We assume that email and private message content is intended only for the recipient(s). Do not post the contents of private emails, private messages or chat transcripts, including the ones of the moderators or any other community member.

Do not post copyrighted content without the permission of the copyright owner. This includes posting images that depict persons without the permission of the depicted person. For more information, click here.

Do not discuss or post about moderation actions. Discussion of moderation actions, reposting of deleted posts or discussion of suspended or no longer registered members. It is not permitted to discuss or repost removed content. It is inappropriate to talk about others who are suspended from the community or eBay.

Do not advertise items, listings, services, or commercial websites, including offers to trade, “wanted” posts, or solicitations. This is related to our Fee Circumvention policy. Members are not permitted to tell others to stop selling on eBay or to leave eBay for any reason to include naming or posting links to off-eBay sites, groups or forums, for more information, click here. For more information about our Want Ads and Trades policy, click here.

Reporters and third party representatives need permission from the eBay Legal Department prior to posting or emailing members in their official capacity. This rule helps assure that the eBay community is made aware if they are speaking to someone who is acting in a professional capacity, rather than as a fellow member.

Do not encourage others to breach eBay policies or the eBay User Agreement. It is against the spirit of the Community to suggest to other members that they do something that may be in breach of eBay policies.

Behavior that is contrary to these guidelines may result in temporary or permanent suspension of activity on the eBay Community platform. eBay reserves the right for itself and its moderators to edit or remove any thread, post, signature, image or video that we consider inappropriate or offensive to the Community. Breaches of the eBay User Agreement or the Community guidelines may result in warnings, board sanctions and/or suspensions from the site. eBay reserves the right to remove any post without warning or further notice.

@ Gary Harber – that was quite a rant Gary…….and a bit off topic.

Dan’s post was informing us of the disruption caused by the storm yesterday. We kinda guessed why we couldn’t get through to Ebay but it was good to have it explained and confirmed. I think your rant (most of which I disagree with) should perhaps be on another thread.

as a small business I am obviously interested in disruption caused. we don’t need Ebay policy quoted here.

      @alan paterson

To be fair, there is not anywhere on here that you can open your own topic to have a rant and allow fellow members to give support or abuse you.

PS On Topic, not sure but had a problem connecting to eBay on-line chat support this morning

      About?

@ Alan Paterson – Quite a rant?…and “a bit “off topic”? Ah, I get it…you’re a friend of eBay, yes?

90% was cut n pasted from eBay… the forum “guidelines”, so hardly a “rant” (unless you see the guidelines as such) and as for “off topic”?, oh yes…an eBay term, if I’m not very much mistaken. Well, unless you are an idiot (are you an idiot alan ?) you would have seen it for what it is, an opinion, MY opinion on the pathetic excuse that is eBay CS, and an attack on a system that is in place to, in effect strangle honest conversation & the option to exchange information that could be beneficial to eBayers in general, but clearly not eBay.

You have a lack of comprehension regarding the entire topic. Your attitude is of one of those people who will not listen or be educated. I have been referred to as an “idiot” in the past but that was only in reference to educating sellers like you. I don’t do that anymore.

Umm, @Lauren is sorry? Not just for herself, and not sure why?, oh well.

The following is alan paterson’s idea of a “rant”

    NEWSFLASH (I announced)
“eBay Customer Support disrupted by storm Ophelia in Ireland”
    (so I’m told), and I continued…

You THINK?, SERIOUSLY??. I would have said it was disrupted YEARS ago, and as such is non-existent.
    OoooK, so far so good.

    I continued…
You can report cases of fraud & shill bidding to eBay CS, AKA “The 3 wise monkeys”, and they will do?…ABsolutely nothing, except “sound” concerned (while laughing their socks off, I suspect)
    FACT.

eBay have a forum, and a loyal following (known as the rah rah brigade), who will defend all things “eBay policy” to the DEATH, and eBay make this easy with the joke that is the 14 point “Guidelines”, the T’s & C’s of you using the forum, and it’s very much open to the interpretation of the “Mods” who police it.

These “Guard dogs” (of eBay) have the power to edit or remove NOT ONLY your post, but remove you from the forum for anything from 1,440 minutes (honestly, minutes not a day) to 4,320, 10,080, 43,200 minutes, to a lifetime ban. And what of these Guidelines?, well…see for yourself, and remember…open to interpretation.

I then went on to “Cut & Paste” the 14 “rules of engagement” that are the guidelines of the eBay community forum (Oh DEEP joy) that goes to demonstrate the lengths eBay have gone to control all aspects of it.

The forum is SAID to be a way we (as forum members) can help each other with all things “eBay”, yet we are forbidden from directing a fellow member “off site”, or even MENtioning a Moderator,and/or his or her actions, yar de dar de dar.

    @alan paterson

    Hi tyler
No “rant”, leastways none from me. All I can tell you is that I made a comment with regard to

“eBay Customer Support disrupted by storm Ophelia in Ireland”, and I cut n pasted the guidelines from the eBay community forum 🙁 a virtual gagging order, me thinks.

I was making the observation that eBay CS (such as it is) has been disrupted for years, and that clearly alan paterson is a member of the eBay rah rah brigade, but what of lauren? well, I haven’t got a CLUE about lauren, based on her “we’re sorry” remark?

I think it (eBay) was a fantastic concept, but is now run with absolutely no thought for the HONEST ebayer (be that seller OR buyer) when eBay continue to turn a blind eye to scammers & shill bidders, and pockets the profits in the form of 10%, the Final Value Fee? SUREly illegal in itself.?

@alan paterson AKA Dick, believes of me (I guess), that

“You have a lack of comprehension regarding the entire topic. Your attitude is of one of those people who will not listen or be educated. I have been referred to as an “idiot” in the past but that was only in reference to educating sellers like you. I don’t do that anymore”

And my reply?, is that alan paterson is full of S**T, who clearly believes himself a legend, in his OWN mind.

    PS
Alan paterson may well have been referred to as an “idiot” in the past (present, and no doubt the future) but he fails to mention he has ALSO been referred to as a DICK, because he is, obviously, a dick.

  • alan paterson

If I had a £1 every time someone called me a “dick” i wouldn’t have to sell on ebay.

I may be a “dick” but it doesn’t make me any less right.

However, your ever aggressive attacks are exposing you on here for the weak willed, imature bully you are. In your earlier posts I genuinely thought that I was addressing a child.

I presume your business is failing and you are on here taking it out (consciously or subconsciously) on the people who are making it work – including ebay itself.

Yes, i would rather be 100% “dick” than have a personality like yours.

But please…..keep trolling me……it will save you preying on anyone else – someone you might actually upset. lol

@alan paterson, the PEOPLES champion has said to me…

“But please…..keep trolling me……it will save you preying on anyone else – someone you might actually upset. lol”

Alan paterson…Truly a legend, in his OWN mind.

    A SCAM IN PROGRESS…

The following is a SCAM in progress. The “seller” is currently called
    joes-bargain-sale (156) 100%
and I can identify the current top bidder, seen as u***r (despite being encrypted) as
    buck-rogers-25thcent

If you “click” on u***r (within bid history), you will be taken to the bid history ID of this bidder, where you will notice he currently has a 90% bidding history with this seller, and has retracted 125 times in the past 6 months, whereas I’ve seen this bidder’s retraction rate to be as high as 250+ when, (as key bidder) bidding in the auctions of 2 scammer sellers, unless all 3 are 1 and the same?. The “3 wise monkeys” involved in scamming, are
    joes-bargain-sale
    buck-rogers-25thcent
    hobby-stuff-cave

You may want to check the ID HISTORY of all 3, and note the like sounding names, and dates of name changes?, via the FEEDBACK page, and the mini menu on the right hand side.

Time was, when hobby & joe were both sellers, bidding in each others auctions of Sony Laptops, with buck ONLY bidding, in the auctions of both, so you always had 2, engaged in a bidding war, with hobby being the key seller, hence the highest feedback score of all 3.

The following is the Bid History ID of buck-rogers-25thcent (38) / u***r (38)
Cut n Pasted….this should be fun.

    Bidder Information

Uninteresting?, unless you or yours were to find yourself on the receiving end.
An entire department to deal with it?, OH, you’re talking about the joke that is “Trust & Safety” and you wonder why I think you’re a dick?
And then we have the “off topic” remark? CLASSIC eBay BS.

I’m a trolling you?, funny you should mention it, but I thought the same of you. I thought you came out with the BS you do, in order to wind people up. eBay profit by this scam, (when successful) to the tune of 10%, the FVF, but clearly you’re OK with that, just so long as YOU hit YOUR targets, eh.

As for @northumbrian ?, well, he finds something boring. If northumbrian finds this subject boring, why get involved…D’oh.

Anyway, how about THIS for some “free advice”.
Best not waste your time on things that you find boring, much less utterly boring, or else you may need his help again.

“Ebay are dishonest” you say because of shill bidding and fraud? You idiot . Your posts are making me quite angry. How is that eBay’s fault? They have a department to deal with that and you get that in any business you idiot. . How do u like it when someone calls you and idiot? Eh idiot? “Smug old men” you should listen to the people making it work. It was ME who wrote the post about Paterson helping with MY business . Do I sound like Northumbrian? I will call you an idiot one last time for good measure idiot.

      @northumbrian gets the message

I suggested northumbrian should concentrate on his OWN business issues, if he found this topic, or me (Ah, bless) “boring”, “really boring” and/or “utterly boring” since he required alan paterson’s free business advice, and he replies…

“sound advice the very fact your posts are allowed have convinced
Us were wasting our time here”

“WERE” wasting our time northumbrian?…”US”?, would that be you and your “business advisor” friend, alan paterson?.

What we seem to have on this forum, is a platform for HONEST discussion, where we can (so it would seem) advise each other of just about anything, including the dishonesty of eBay, and to that end I offer my most sincere thanks to TAMEBAY.

You and your seller friend may be happy to accept fraud, scammers and shill bidding to take place on eBay, while you defend them at every opportunity, but I suspect not everybody feels the same way.

I am presuming its not going well is it?……..you are angry and frustrated……..so your little mind thinks its a good idea to take it out on the folk on here. You are sarcastic (lowest form of wit) and rude and very puerile. You are now regurgitating points that I directed at you (the teenager quip) – have you nothing original of your own?

You picked up on my “superiority complex”. You are quite accurate, I am so much superior to you. I look at your posts and you are becoming nothing more than a troll.

@northumbrian – removaldog is confusing you with Ross K – “the business advice” he is referring to was one of Ross K posts. I helped him a few months ago. What is it with this guy?

@removaldog – I do not know Northumbrian. I have never given him business advice – you are quoting Ross K. Jeeeez you really are proving my point here lol. You have a real problem – lashing out at people. Now you are doing it over things they haven’t even said. Does your mum and dad know that you have bypassed the parental controls on your PC?

      @jay65

      Hi Jay
Yes, sorry about that 🙂 the wrong forum again, eh? tut tut & tut. The STORY of my life.
Well, I had noticed alan (AKA dick) had a superiority complex, and then northumbrian jumped to the defence of it’s “friend”, but in all honesty, judging by SOME of it’s (northumbrians) posts, I thought I was dealing with a teenager.

      Take care now
      All the best

Oh yes, my mistake. @northumbrian is just?, well… boring, really boring, and utterly boring.

Cheers dick, I remember now, Ross k is your friend with the failing business that you have been good enough to help turn around.

Given up on “trolling you” dick? you actually think your self worth the effort don’t you? A legend in your OWN mind. I don’t “troll” dick. I reply, I respond, if (when dealing with a self obsessed dick such as your self) I can be bothered, but I don’t troll.

Hey, northumbrian, I see what you did there, your “play on words”, umm…boring.

Everybody, please stop feeding the Troll, they just get to feel important.

Think “mind over matter” – we don’t mind what they say because they really don’t matter!
