PayPal is investing in India

It’s hardly surprising that India fascinates ecommerce. It’s the second most populous nation in the world and has a strong English-speaking affinity. eBay has been making inroads with the Flipkart deal and Amazon too has been investing. PayPal is looking East too, it seems.

This week, PayPal has launched two new campaigns in India: Shopping Buddy and Go Global.

Narsi Subramanian of PayPal says: “The Go Global campaign has been designed for India keeping in mind that a significant portion of freelancing projects are cross-border. The Indian freelancer community is closely knit and a strong referral programme will enable India’s growing base of freelancers to leverage the global opportunity. PayPal’s unique offerings like and Seller Protection for Intangibles makes PayPal a preferred choice.”

“India is the 2nd largest freelancer market outside of the US. India is also a hub for software exports hence software and web rated services constitute a significant portion of the freelancing business. Additionally, skilled women who have taken a break from their careers to manage the house or children and retired professionals also contribute to this growing number in India.”

It’s worth revisiting how significant and huge PayPal is: PayPal can be used in 200 markets globally, the PayPal offering includes Braintree Venmo and Xoom. Over 200 million people worldwide can send and receive money in more than 100 currencies, withdraw funds in 56 currencies and hold balances in their PayPal accounts in 25 currencies. The PayPal story continues to unfold.
