PayPal charity giving at an all time high
PayPal users were generous givers over the course of the year but Christmas 2016 saw them make a record breaking charitable contribution. In 2016 as a whole they donated $7.3 billion in contributions.
And over the Christmas period, 8 million PayPal users in 181 countries contributed $971,213,604 to 282,053 charities. What a total. That’s an all time high and up 11% on 2015.
PayPal CEO Dan Schulman said: “PayPal’s mission is all about democratizing financial services for citizens across the world. Perhaps nowhere is that more evident than in the power of our global payments platform to create a worldwide network that allows people to support their communities and the causes they’re most passionate about. We are thankful for the generosity that our PayPal users showed this past holiday season. We look forward to another year of innovation around new services and capabilities so that all of us can continue to make a positive impact in every community around the world that PayPal helps to serve.”
The size of the gifts varied. Many were $5 and $10 donations but the largest donation in December was $230,000 with the average contribution being $93.
Did you use PayPal to make a donation in 2015?
