eBay Neighbourhood to replace eBay UK Trading Assistant Program

By Chris Dawson July 11, 2016 - 11:16 am

eBay are to run a three month trial of a new selling program – eBay Neighbourhood. It’s like an updated version of their Trading Assistant program, but more rigidly organised, for instance commission fees are fixed.

eBay Neighbourhood connects you with people in your local area who need help selling on eBay. In return for helping them, you receive a 40% commission based on the final sale price.

The selling commission is to cover the eBay and PayPal fees as well as your admin fees for selling the item. However by taking part in the neighbourhood programme, you will also benefit from free insertion and 20% off final value fees for your first 200 listings per day on eBay.co.uk – even those that are not part of the eBay Neighbourhood programme.

Following sale, the item owner will be asked to rank your service on a scale of 1 – 5 stars.

If you’ve previously been an eBay Trading Assistant then it could be worth signing up as an eBay Neighbourhood seller. Currently eBay are signing up invited sellers in the trial areas of London, Manchester and Glasgow. If you want to be kept informed if eBay expand the programme to your area then email your interest to DL-eBay-Neighbourhood-Support@ebay.com.

One concern we’ve heard from sellers who have previously been a part of the eBay Trading Assistant program is what happens if they’re deemed ineligible to be part of eBay Neighbourhood. Those who have built up successful trading assistant businesses include part time hobby sellers serving their local community right up to larger businesses operating as full time trading assistants from shops or warehouse type facilities.

We don’t know eBay’s full edibility requirements and they may well chance as the trial progresses. We’ll update as soon as we have more information on eBay’s longer term plans.
