Amazon Flex look for casual drivers in Birmingham

By Chris Dawson July 25, 2016 - 12:01 pm

Amazon FlexAmazon are looking for people who you live in Birmingham, who are not criminals, to help them with deliveries.

If you’re interested you’ll need to have a car or van and an Android smartphone, pass a background check and you could start earning £13-£15/hr (including tips) for Amazon Prime Now deliveries and £13/hr for standard Amazon deliveries.

The program is called Amazon Flex, and enables those wanting to earn additional income to work up to 24 hours per week using their private vehicle to delivery for Amazon. It’s not a new program having launched in the US and now with 1000s of delivery partners, but is new to the UK and currently operating in Birmingham.

Prime Now DeliveryWhilst you can pick the time blocks when you’d like to work, there are no guaranteed hours or pay – available delivery blocks may fluctuate week to week. We’d expect it to be pretty busy around Christmas though which is when most people want some extra cash.

Amazon do point out that if you’re looking for regular hours that they are hiring thousands at their fulfilment centres. Amazon Flex is for those interested in part time casual work.

Where this does become interesting is for those who already work for couriers, especially lifestyle couriers such as myHermes. Will there be a temptation to double up and moonlight for two employers, or will Amazon end up paying more and poach drivers from other businesses?

Only time will tell, but if you’re short of cash and want to become an Amazon Flex driver, you can apply online on the Amazon Flex website.
