BST ends this Sunday and listings finish 1hr early

Clocks back one hourDon’t forget that this Sunday the clocks go back, the evenings get darker, the mornings get colder and all your than you may have intended.

If you’ve got fixed price listings you probably won’t notice their ending time, especially if you’re using Good til Cancelled and they never end anyway. However if you’re listing with auctions, due to the clocks changing auctions started before Sunday will end an hour earlier than they started.

Clocks go back this SundayWe often hear from eBay sellers claiming eBay stole an hour from their auctions. But that’s not the case – a 7 day auction will still run for exactly 7 days (168 hours).

For instance if last Sunday at 9pm you started a 7 day auction, it will end at 8pm this coming Sunday. If BST was still current then your listing would end at 9pm this Sunday, but as the clocks will have changed 9pm BST becomes 8pm GMT hence your listing will end at 8pm.

Whilst I don’t think ebay have stolen any time from us, I do think there should be a warning on auction listing forms to remind sellers before they decide on a time.
Imagine you’re selling goods aimed at 5-10 years old children, and want to catch mums getting home from the school run, so start an auction around 10am……. it will end at 9am, an hour earlier than planned, and when most mums are still stuck in the traffic jams they create !
