Virgin Media time out issues with eBay

eBay BugWe’re hearing from an increasing number of Virgin Media customers that pages are timing out on eBay on a regular basis. This has apparently been occurring since Thursday last week.

We are pretty sure that eBay isn’t down (at least we’re able to access it) but we’re not Virgin customers. We’ve also not had any emails from eBay users who don’t use Virgin Media.

From what we understand Virgin Media say that they don’t have any problems so it must be an eBay fault, whilst eBay are saying that they also don’t have any problems so it must be a Virgin Media issue. As it’s only Virgin Media customers who are complaining it seems likely that it’s a caching or routing issue.

If (and I say “if” as we’ve no confirmation), it’s an issue with DNS (Domain Name Servers) and you’re slightly technical changing your DNS servers to anyone other than Virgin Media’s and then flushing your DNS cache may help

If you can shed any light on the situation we’d love to hear from you.

    So that is what the problem is! We’ve noticed ebay slow and unresponsive….as usual it’s not thier fault!

    yep – I use VM and I have noticed this – particularly with the app when on wireless mobile or ipad.

    Ive noticed this aswell, especially when sending a message, it times out…

    I am with Virgin…

    I’ve not had timeout issues, but eBay pages take ages to load on my home’s Virgin network; on the work WiFi system, they’re fine.

    Same problem here for the past few days. Using a Virgin Media connection and getting a lot of time out issues across the eBay website. It’s definitely a Virgin Media issue as I can log on to the same eBay account with no issues whatsoever down the road with a different internet connection. Would love to hear from a “techie” with a possible fix? Danny

    I have the same problem with VM; change DNS to a free server like google (8.8.8.8 for ipv4) solves the problem immediately

    Not a fan of Virgin media, however the issue started las week when EBay released version 4 of their app for Android.
    It does not affect PC users using the same internet connection.

    It does affect my mobile device whether using BT WiFi, mobile 4g or virgin media.

    Since I uninstalled version 4 eBay app and reinstalled version 3 the problem has reduced.

    I am no detective but Virgin may no be entirely responsible this time. (The layout of the eBay app was awful as well and the reviews on ‘play’ are shocking)

    i was asked to beta test the new ebay app 2-3 weeks ago, made my suggestions and reported bugs etc.

    seemed fine, then they released it and ive heard of many issues!

    typical ebay.

    PS, VMedia user too, and problems allround.

    i noticed issues, and then checked on Downdetector.co.uk and says theres problems with other users too so im not isolated. PS the website is handy to check if its just you thats seeing an issue, with ebay and other sites :)

    i have just had a user email me saying they cant bid becuase it states i dont take paypal and only wire transfer, and that he cant bid becuase he has an unpaid item in germany – this is simply untrue, i take paypal ONLY!
    maybe another glitch!

      had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. A German buyer asked me if i accepted bank transfer, i stated that i only accepted paypal. He then replied saying ebay wouldn’t allow him to pay by paypal instead saying the page stated i only accepted wire transfer. He gave me a “haha” and gave up buying from me. How many more gave up without contacting me?

      my buyer was UK based, im uk based!

      confused with that lil glitch. i know its as common in germnay to wire, but over here its not, and cross border can cost £10-15 to my bank, my items tend to be below that, so they would pay more fees just to pay me lol

    Same for me I use VM and the problems started last week, very slow ,unresponsive and its only with Ebay.

    I am a Virgin Media customer and this problem with the slow going of ebay is still going on as of 20 September 2015. There seems to be a slow DNS and then pages just time out. I am a seller and this is bothering me quite a lot as pages take ages to load (I wish I would just be able to add a p to ages! ;) )

    Problem is only with Ebay, but it is across all browsers, Chrome, Safari, Firefox etc. Any insights or updates would be warmly welcome.
