Pinterest Buyable Pins now live

By Dan Wilson July 2, 2015 - 1:04 am

Pinterest has now launched its “Buyable Pins” meaning that you can purchase goods via the online scrapbook site.

Pinterest’s Head of Commerce Michael Yamartino says: “Buyable Pins are just another way to bring the creative ideas you find on Pinterest to life, and we can’t wait to see what you’ll do with them. Happy shopping!”

As Pinterest adds in a blog post: Blue means you can buy. So if you see a pinned item with a blue price, you can buy it. They’ve also published a video, explaining how it all works:

It’s rolling out in stages but quickly, they note: “In the next few weeks, 30 million Pins all over Pinterest will become buyable. You’ll soon find products from brands like Macy’s, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom, retailers powered by Demandware like Michaels and Gardener’s Supply Company, and thousands of Shopify stores like Poler Outdoor Stuff and SOBU.”

Payments will be available via Apple Pay and also PayPal’s Braintree system with Stripe also coming online soon. But at the moment Buyable Pins are limited to the iOS apps on iPad and iPhones. Andriod and desktop options are expected to follow.

We think Pinterest could become a very interesting ecommerce frontier. Will you try it?
