Southerners splash out more on Mother’s Day
Mums from all over the country are inevitably in for a treat this Sunday, but those in the South East might fair better on the gift front according to a poll conducted by delivery firm Hermes.
Of the 1,935 online shoppers surveyed by Hermes, nearly half of those questioned are planning on spending in excess of £50 on a gift this year with flowers being the most popular at 42% and chocolates at 28%. However the those Mums based in the South East look set to receive a gift costing on average £85 – more than double those in the North of England whose children are planning on spending around £40.
Incidentally, if you’ve still not ordered flowers for your mum, one of Tamebay’s favourite online florists is Arena Flowers. We’ve also found a promo code “MUM15” which will get you 15% off and they’re offering free delivery on Saturday or Sunday across most of the country for Mother’s day.
What if money was no object
When asked what they would buy their mums ‘if money was no object’ there was little geographic variation among those surveyed, with the top answers being an exotic holiday, a house and diamonds. Poignantly some respondents stated that the best present they could give their mums was ‘good health.’
Half the country are buying online for Mother’s Day
This year over 50% of respondents said they will be ordering a gift online for delivery rather than shopping in-store with forty one per cent claiming to be very organised, ordering a week in advance. Others (20%) will leave it to a day or two beforehand, taking advantage of Hermes’ 2-3 day, next day and Sunday delivery services offered via many UK retailers. Consumers can also use the 2 day* myHermes ParcelShop solution which enables gifts to be sent via the company’s network of 4,500 myHermes ParcelShops.’
Mark Pettit, Sales and Marketing Director at Hermes, said: “The run up to Mother’s Day is always busy for us and it is heart-warming to think that the parcels running through our network are sent with so much love, regardless of cost.”
