Thingimijigs featured in the Guardian
Rachael and Colin White of Thingimijigs were featured in the Guardian this week. I’ve know their business for many years (on the eBay PowerSeller Boards) from way before Tamebay was launched so was absolutely thrilled to see them in the paper.
Thingimijigs is “The site for busy mums” and was founded on the premise that if Rachael and Colin’s three children all wanted something than surely other mums were out shopping for the same items too so if you’re looking for kids branded items – everything from Disney Frozen Pyjamas, Minnie Mouse Bag, Power Rangers Sunglasses some 2,000 other lines – that is Thingimijigs!
Starting out in 2004 with just an eBay account, £200 and a kitchen table and computer, they are now just about to move into their new purpose built 10,000 sq ft warehouse as they have outgrown their current warehouse. They’ve now turned their £200 into a £1.4m turnover business!
It’s always good to hear of a business that’s doing well and I’m so pleased Rach and Colin are one of the success stories. Head over the the guardian to read the whole article which also includes a profile of John and Gill from Bamford Trading.
Congratulations to them!
Thanks Chris – that’s a lovely thing to write – I can honestly say that without help/ advice and sometimes just a sounding board of places like the original Power Seller Board and now Tamebay that our company would not have grown the way it has – it seems strange that software we only dreamed off 10 years ago, is now off the shelf software, and that multi channel selling is the norm..
Whatever level of business someone has – if it affords them the freedom to realise their dreams and goals , then they are very blessed.
We all know that online retail is bloody hard work at times, and not a quick rags to riches story – and this shows with the number of traders we can see staying and putting the hard work in.
Thanks for the mention Chris. Following on from the Guardian article Gill and I have just recorded a video interview (from our kitchen table where it all started 10 years ago) for BBC’s The One Show, due to go out in Thursday evening. We don’t know if it will be broadcast but hopefully it will be a good advert for marketplaces/eBay in general and sellers in particular. John
That’s brilliant John, do let us know if/when it airs and we’ll tune in.
Hi Dan, if they run it it will be tomorrow evening. And I forgot to say congratulations to Thingimijigs of course.
It is an inspirational story to read and does show how eBay can help Online Business Grow.
