Amazon UK offers £1.99 1-day locker delivery

Over the past few months those Amazon lockers, where you can collect your purchases, are popping up everywhere. Obviously, the density of their locations depends on buyer demand and population. But I have been seeing more and more of them. No bad thing.

amazon 199They offer a really useful collection option for buyers. Whether you’re on the daily commute or the weekly shop, the school run or a business trip, they represent real convenience and flexibility for busy people who might not be at home to receive a parcel that might not otherwise fit through the letterbox. Have you got Amazon lockers near you?

It’s really interesting to see that Amazon are actively pushing those lockers as an attractive delivery option to consumers.

The latest development we’ve noticed is a 1-day, so essentially a next day, delivery service to lockers for just £1.99 being offered on the Amazon site. And that seems to be available no matter size the parcel as long as it fits in the lockers.

And for free, you can opt for a two day time-frame for your delivery to an Amazon locker. Seriously competitive pricing.

This service isn’t just something available to Amazon items sold by Amazon themselves but also a service that Amazon FBA sellers can take advantage of and that really enhances the FBA value proposition.

It is further evidence that the key battleground in ecommerce is delivery. And it’s going to continue to be about choice and convenience. Plenty of people still want the last mile to-the-door traditional service from Royal Mail and other couriers. But it’s going to also mean people who want shop pick-ups, locker drop-offs, Click & Collect, Sunday services and even within the hour delivery like eBay Now can choose what best suits them.

The question is how best ecommerce SMEs can surf this consumer trend to maximise profits.

There is still a minimum spend of £10 though presumably?

There are lockers in my small town at the local McColls store.

I would have thought so: I seldom spend less than a tenner there myself and guess that’s pretty typical.
