Samsung Galaxy Gear to have eBay app

By Chris Dawson September 5, 2013 - 10:18 am

Galaxy GearStraight out of James Bond, a smartwatch that can make calls, receive emails and take photographs has been launched by Samsung – the Galaxy Gear.

The wearable device — which becomes available on the 25th of September has microphones and speaker meaning users speak into and hear from the watch instead of a handset, you won’t need to get your phone out anymore.

Incoming messages – such as calls, alerts and emails – show up on the smartwatch and can be accessed on the wrist. It’s switched on with a swipe, which unlocks it’s features including apps, contacts, a camera and email.

The Galaxy Gear also features a 1.63 inch display with 320 x 320 pixel resolution and a 1.9 Megapixel camera. It also runs for 25 hours on a single charge and can run multiple apps, including eBay’s official mobile app.

With eBay for Galaxy Gear, users can easily (hyper) bid or place a bid in one tap. They will also receive key notifications, including:

  • Won an item
  • Newly listed items in their saved searches
  • Counter offer received
  • Best Offer received
  • Message received
  • Item sold

Galaxy Gear users can launch their Android companion app to view all notifications in one place and edit settings.

Is it for you?

Are you one of those people that value your spare time and the last thing you want is a watch constantly notifying you of what’s going on in the world? Or are you one of those people who’s phone is constantly pinging with emails, messages and Facebook updates and would welcome a watch device which could display them for you? How great would it be to be able to view notifications without having to drag your phone out of your pocket and decide if you want to reply?

Love it or hate it, it’s a clever piece of tech. If it increases buying and selling on eBay (and doubtless with other retailers and marketplaces in the future), that has to be a good thing for online sellers. Even if it’s not for you it’ll affect the way your buyers do business with you and that has to be a good thing.

Give me one that doesn’t need a phone in the pocket AS WELL and then you ARE talking!
