Apple 5s & 5c unveiled and presales on eBay

By Chris Dawson September 11, 2013 - 10:25 am

Apple have unveiled their newest iPhone, or rather two new iPhones the 5s and 5c.

The iPhone 5s has a 64bit processor, beefed up camera and fingerprint scanner whilst the 5c budget model comes in multiple colours but is already being compared with the iPhone 3GS for it’s looks.

Don’t think that the 5c stands for cheap though, it’s still going to cost £469, whilst the iPhone 5 is to be dumped the 4S at £349 will remain and that’ll be your budget model.

The 5c really isn’t that much cheaper than the 5s, but what it will do is appeal to Apple users who are fed up with a mobile that looks old and dated compared to the latest Samsung and HTC models. Sadly of course if you just want the top of the range model you’ll have the 5s with prices starting at £549.

Once again although Apple have made everything a little bit better, the new 5s isn’t really groundbreaking, it’s another iteration on a tried and tested model.

If you do rush out to buy a 5s or 5c make sure you get a new SIM card – The two new models don’t use a SIM or micro-SIM card, this time you’ll need a Nano-SIM which Apple first introduced for the iPhone 5.

Selling iPhone 5s and 5c on eBay

We’ve not heard from eBay UK yet, but eBay.com rushed out an announcement regarding pre and post launch selling restrictions. We fully expect eBay UK to put similar selling restrictions in place.

Pre launch
Apple-authorized resellers may list up to 25 items per week.
eBay Top Rated sellers may list up to 4 items per week.
Sellers meeting eBay minimum performance standards may list 1 item per week.

Post launch
Apple-authorized resellers may list an unlimited number of items per week.
eBay Top Rated sellers may list up to 8 items per week.
Sellers meeting eBay minimum performance standards may list 4 items per week.
Sellers who’ve confirmed their personal information may list 1 item per week.

With the new iPhone cases and accessories watch out for more stories about Apple VeROing iPhone accessory listings and getting them taken down. It looks very much like Apple want to expand their grip on the accessories market as this time they’ve more add on products available in more colours than for any previous model.

Official pricing on these is just stupid, at the apple UK website

The price difference between the 5c and 5s is about £80.

Great if the phones were 120 or 200.

But not when its like 469 and 549.

I think youd be mad to buy a 5C for just £80 quid cheaper over a 5c.

But then i dont get i suppose. As i dont have any apple products in my house.

I’m with you – the choices are an expensive premium phone, or an expensive almost premium phone that’s much more appealing in style and available in colours.

It’s almost like they know Apple loves will want to stick with the tired old iPhone shape (which actually looks appalling compared to an HTC One or Samsung Galaxy 4) and have money to burn, but they’ve done a more modern design for people that actually care about what products look like and think the 4S looks old and dated.

The problem is that Apple’s innovative leader Steve Jobs has passed away.

This was his baby and the new management seems to come across that they don’t know where to go.By all means tweak it here and there but keeping the shape the same they can only add new technology to the phone.

The 5c is a wasted opportunity for Apple. In the States it is selling for $99.00 but here is it is £400-500.Pure rip off!!!.

I would forget about the 5c and just sell the 5S.

Apple is always about new tech and is a premium brand. Why rock the boat!!!.The 5c will not do apple any good.

I own an Experia U so don’t have an axe to grind!!!

Its 99 USD in USA on a 2 year contect. 99 USD is what you pay upfront. Id image in UK it would be free on contracts.

Also alot of Americans will buy Apple or the new google moto x as its patriotic. Just as alot of Canadians will buy Blackberry.

Ive used them all, I think android the best and i think Blackberry 10 will be up there as soon as more apps are coverted to the platform.

If you dont need all the apps blackberry 10 is silky smooth and doesn’t hang sometimes like my Nexus 4 does.

I think apple may struggle as so many good devices on the market.

If the 5c was £225 to even £300 they would of sold bucket loads, but the price now is too close to the 5s and its not cheap enough to put fear into cheaper hand sets.

Like i got my nexus 4 last week for 159.99 direct from google.

Is it called the 5c because the folk who assemble it get paid that per hour?
