eBay motors unveil BTCC 2013 BMW 125i M
Outside eBay’s Richmond offices Colin Turkington, the 2009 British Touring Car Champion, Rob Collard and Nick Foster, alongside West Surrey Racing (WSR) Team Principal Dick Bennetts pulled off the covers to reveal the sleek dark grey motor with vibrant splashes of colour and eBay logo picked out in white.
The unveiling at eBay was the first public glimpse of the new car ahead of the official BTCC media day at Donington Park on the 21st March. The first race of the season will be on the 31st of March at Brands Hatch and will be when we really see how the eBay Motors car performs.
Also at outside eBay’s offices today was the Milk Float from the eBay Motors Mechanic’s challenge, now adorned with the new eBay logo. This is the vehicle which won eBay their first ever Guinness World Record. Reaching a top speed of 77.53mph it’s officially the fastest milk float in the world!
It’s the car that everyone was interested in though. It’ll be one of three racing in eBay’s colours, and when asked the drivers were somewhat diplomatic about the team spirit. Obviously they’re a team, but their comment “We’ll wait and see what positions look like towards the end of the season” tends to suggest although they wouldn’t run a team mate off the road, it’s every man for himself when it comes to the actual racing.
The partnership with WSR reflects the shared passion for cars and motorsport enabling eBay Motors to connect and engage with automotive fans of the BTCC. The eBay Motors Team will soon be announcing a number of BTCC race weekend initiatives for fans to share and experience their passion with other fans. The race meets will also include a variation of the hugely popular race simulator that appeared at select 2012 rounds giving you a chance to pit your skills against the BTCC drivers.
A race simulator is one thing, the eBay Motors new BMW 125iM Sport is quite another – I did suggest to the eBay Motors guys that they auction a seat in the car while one of the eBay Motors BTCC team drivers go round the track. It would make a great charity auction, although it’d probably end up out of my price range it would be a fantastic day out for one lucky eBay Motors BTCC fan. We’ll be first to let you know if they take us up on the suggestion, in the mean time feast your eyes on the car and the eBay Motors team drivers:
You have can a decent drive in a Porsche around Thruxton for a £100.00 . Might be a better spend.
It’s been three years since I had Mika Hakkinen drive me round for some hot laps at Mercedes Benz World. If eBay did put a ride with a pro driver on auction I’d have a bid…
… but Thruxton you say, haven’t they got anything better than a Porsche? :D
Yes, if you have deep pockets!. its the drive home that is the dangerous part..;)
