eBay AdCommerce terminated across Europe

By Chris Dawson January 4, 2011 - 9:13 am

Six months after closing eBay AdCommerce on, eBay have today announced that AdCommerce will be terminated across Europe as of the 31st January 2011.

If you currently use AdCommerce you don’t need to do anything, your AdCommerce placements will no longer be available, and any ads you already created will automatically end on 31st January.

As when the AdCommerce program was cancelled in the US, eBay say that Best Match and consistently displaying the most relevant items is in the interest of buyers and sellers should concentrate on achieve position in natural search results rather than buying additional exposure.

Final AdCommerce bills will be sent out in February. If like me you’ve had little success with AdCommerce you’ve probably stopped using it, but for those sellers who have made it a success it’s going to negatively impact your visibility so it’s time to find other places to spend your advertising budget.

I wonder what eBay have up their sleeve to replace it, sometimes it’s better the devil you know.

Sheesh, first day back to work and already eBay is irritating me.

Save the frustration for the end of Q1 when we get some new rules announced for trying to sell on eBay :X

      Happy new year btw.

Paying for a 3rd time to appear on the same page was probably a little to much don’t you think?

Although to be frankly honest, for those whom used it, did have a competitive edge, as crucially it did convert in certain categories.

I believe it was more of a case that sellers just did not understand how to use and was compounded by a poor interface & zealous key-word adding tool, coupled with poor training materials and training, sealed its fate.

Happy new year Matthew, I was actually a fan come the end, initially I thought it was taking the **** but once the guys at adcom showed me how to use it properly we were getting on average £34 for every £1 spent.

absolutely gutted about this. It was one of the few initiatives from Ebay that I actually thought was a good scheme, it helped me enormously, and now they scrap it. Baffled.

Good riddance, only ever used ad commerce for the month trial, then out of the blue last month I received an invoice despite not logging into the account for probably 12 months.

I contacted them to let them know of their mistake and was basically told they were going to take payment anyway and confirmed the account had been hacked, when I objected to payment being taken they just ignored me.

I could dispute the paypal payment however ebay would probably then shut my ebay account down.

Would using Googles Adsence and directing the traffic to your own website be better and more productive than paying for eBays adcommerce? After all eBay already charge you a listing fee and if your product sells a sales fee, on top off your subcription fee. I would have thought paying to drive traffic to your website was more productive than paying eBay to do the same thing, then paying more eBay sales fee’s for your success, which your website hasn’t got.

Well, Warren, this development will certainly give me some impetus to do what you suggest.
In my in-tray post-Christmas was a desire to generate traffic to my own site, and this has just given me the kick up the jacksie I needed.
