Heston Blumenthal Christmas Pudding on eBay

By Chris Dawson December 12, 2010 - 12:03 am

People are going mad for the with the whole orange baked into the middle. As a special sold in Waitrose supermarkets for just £13.99, the pudding has a whole candied orange in the centre.

If you did buy one of these and are after some last minute funds towards your Christmas then it might be worth listing your pudding on eBay. One and eBay research company Terapeak reveals that a massive £19,755 of puddings have been sold. That’s 114 puddings sold at an average price of £173.29 each, not a bad return for your original £13.99 outlay.

Three of the puddings have sold for over £1000.00, with another eleven sold between £500.00 and £1000.00. Even the lowest price pudding to be sold on eBay fetched £35.01, which isn’t a bad return giving you plenty of profit to purchase an alternative for Christmas day.

How many of those sales were actually completed by money changing hands?

      Good question!

After a decade plus on eBay i have figured DON’T TRY TO PARSE THE ANOMALIES. there is such a thing as random, there are people who are retards, there are media whores and devotees.

Generalisations are true most of the time, ignore the anomalies. The exception proves the rule – how daft is that?

eBay is for advertising stuff that you aren’t really bothered if it sells or not at the price, clear some warehouse space, maybe a bit of cashflow. Good business on eBay – one in a million, cut from under your feet within six months unless you are a true expert/specialist.

Why do you think that…? Have you been slapped by eBay recently?

I think eBay is a great (although unstable) place to make lots of money. Any business that ignores eBay these days is a bad business.

    2 things:

    1. I, Wonder, how many ‘wanna be cooks’ out there are doing one too?…..Can’t be that difficult!!.

    2. Up to £1k, and I thought there was a recession out in the UK.

Wanted the Bahamas for Xmas, but the Canaries will have to so. That’s a Grand (£1k) well spent….

A similar thing happened for that chocolate that was featured on ch4.

In the Daily Mail Saturday 11th there was a Waitrose £10 off voucher-buy £60 get £10 off. So on reading this item I thought about buying £60 of Christmas Puds and getting £10 off and selling them all on ebay. Trouble is I do not know(or care) where my local(probably 50 miles or more away) Waitrose is. Voucher valid to December 19th. If it is of any use to you let me know and I will send it to you.

Please note that the ‘buyer’ of the £1020 cake might not have been serious as s/he is not registered with eBay anymore, and the cake has been relisted as is currently at a more reasonable price of £36…

eBay must have suspended him/her for non payment.

In the Financial World there is an error called “The fat finger” basically you hit more than one ket at a time and punch in something that you did not intend. This is what is often blamed for the Financial stupidities where Finacial Geniuses Invest Millions of pounds in investments worth only thousands and bring down a Bank. I sometimes think that the crazy prices such as the price for the Christmas Pud come into that category. Yet they have confirmed the bid-probably half asleep and did not notice it. Then later when they do notice it they have an attack of the screaming ad-dabs and do not or cannot pay and get themselves suspended.

They just had to withdraw the bid, saying, entered wrong amount…..
