Still if you’ve got some personal items laying around and want to convert them into cash you’ll do better on eBay than taking the down to your local Cash Converters so get listing.

eBay have just announced 50,000 free auction listings per seller and the Buy It Now option can be added to these listings for free. Yes that wasn’t a typo, you can list up to fifty thousand auction style listings with Buy It Now with no insertion fees to pay.

Far be it from me to suggest this as a good idea, but it’s pretty likely that if you have an eBay.com store subscription that you’ll take advantage of this offer by listing on one of your other eBay accounts.

I largely ignore free listing days for private sellers as my eBay account is obviously a business account, however this time there’s something of slightly more interest that the promotion itself – eBay have revamped the free listing promotion page on eBay. It’s now laid out with a much cleaner look and the terms and conditions all held under separate tabs if you need to check them. Take a look at the new page – I like it!

If you already offer expedited shipping then you’re quids (dollars!) in, if you don’t I suspect you’re about to tell me that the cost off offering free shipping far outweighs a 20% discount from your selling fees. The thing is though that the nearer we get to Christmas the more likely it is people will want items shipped fast. They may be more than willing to pay a little more on the cost of the item if it’s going to be delivered quickly.

On the other hand they might be more interested in paying the lowest possible price and then adding in the cost of shipping… but that way you won’t get a discount of your fees.

Now the limit on the 5000 auctions of 1, 3 or 5 day listings makes sense – every seller that was feverishly listings 6 days ago will have a ton of ended auctions just gagging to be relisted and (so long as you’ve not deleted them or already relisted them) it’ll cost you a maximum of $50 to send the whole lot live again.

Check the details on eBay for the full terms, but there are very few restrictions so long as you’re not a below standards seller.

The only restrictions are that the listings must be for 1, 3 or 5 day listings, but seeing as you’re not paying for them the duration isn’t a huge issue. What may become a problem is of course if the majority of your free listings end without bids. If your close rate is too low there’s a good chance that eBay will dump ALL of your future auction listings to the bottom of search and effectively your account will be scuppered for the near future.

This time around it’s up to 100 auction listings with a start price of £1 or more can be listed for free on the 12th or 13th November. As usual you can’t use professional listings tools such as TurboLister but you can use the mobile apps to list if you wish.

Sellers can also re-list unsold items so I guess some sellers will simply press the relist button on everything that didn’t sell last time flooding the site with a goodly array of good to end in a week or ten days time.

eBay are running these promotions so often now it would be no surprise to see free insertion fees extended for private sellers in the near future. Can you see that happening?

Business sellers are excluded, as are sellers who’s seller rating is below standard. You’ll also be barred from using professional listing tools but you can use the Sell Your Item forms as well as the eBay Android, iPhone and iPad apps.

The free listing promotion is on the 13th September and applies to eBay.com, eBay.ca and eBaymotors.com. The only sellers excluded are those whose account have fallen below eBay’s minimum performance standards.

This is an ideal time to list higher value items on eBay.com. Auction fees for items with a start price of $200 or more would normally be $2 per listing. If you’ve got fixed price items languishing on eBay.com consider running them as auctions while it’s free to do so to get greater visibility in search results.

The promotion applies to both sellers with and without an eBay stores subscription, but if you’re seller status is below standard then you won’t be eligible for the promotion.

This promotion is open on August 30th for sellers without an eBay store as well as those with an eBay store subscription. There’s no limit on your start price so if you have items languishing on fixed price listings it’s worth considering ending and relisting as auctions to take advantage of the increased visibility.

There’s one error in the promotion (which has been copied over from the last promotion). “After the promotion period, you will be charged the standard Insertion Fee of £0.5 for media items and £0.10 for all items with a starting price of between £0.01 and £0.99“. Media items do of course have an insertion fee of £0.05, not 50p!

eBay say outstanding service deserves a reward and that’s why they’ve come up with a special ‘thank you’ for eBay Top-rated sellers.

Only sellers registered in the UK who have achieved eBay Top Rated Seller Status in the UK are eligible and only items listed on eBay UK in sterling will qualify for the promotion. There are a few conditions so check the Top Rated Seller free subtitle announcement for full details.

Subtitle undoubtedly adds an advantage to sellers even though the subtitle is only searchable if the buyer clicks to search titles and descriptions. Just by having a subtitle makes your listing stand out in search results and of course gives you another 55 characters (in addition to the 55 character title) to convince a buyer that they should click into your listing.

Subtitles normally cost £0.35 for short duration listings and £1.05 for 30 day listings so don’t forget to remove them from your listings at the end of June when you relist your items.
