Well people are very welcome to try reselling my stuff on ebay if they want. I even offer them the use of my high quality photographs if I think that's their game. Unfortunately I think they may find it difficult to turn a profit LOL.

If we get enquiries for trade or larger quantities, then it's off ebay.
We can give better prices & still come out on top.

Ebays' display of contact details has pushed our trade business up by over 45% in the last year alone. Those contacts are invaulable & most of the time, there is repeat business time & time again.

We recently sold 75 of a rack we sell on ebay, 'privately', that led onto a very nice string of orders from just about every school in that district. Yes, we sell at a lower price than on ebay, the buyers are happy & we make a better margin.

As others have said above, after what ebay have done to so many sellers. their lack of support for sellers, I have not 1 shed of guilt within me, whatsoever.

And our bank balance is looking better all the time....!!

I've got my name back!!!!

After being known as "Christopher Dawson" for 24 hours I telephoned business support on an unrelated matter and at the end of the call they asked if there was anything else they could help with. I said yes I was unhappy with my name change so they said no problems and swapped it back to Chris Dawson :-D

Kind of makes a mockery of the whole id verification thing though!

How about the ebay fleeced all my profits in fees and chargebacks and being ripped off to keep my TRS status charity. Cant find that one either.

eBay tight as 10K from a company that turns over......

Pathetic.

Actually your comments in # 95 are not correct. They would be if all sellers opted to sell for free, which is perfectly possible. In practise most sellers, who are serious about making sales, opt for the gallery picture/2% fee route.

In fairness you can also start small with pay as you go fees on eBid too. However when I tried alternative sites Gumtree (an online classified site owned by the eBay group) outperformed eBid in that I got sales on Gumtree and none on eBid despite offering the items 30% lower than the same product sold for on eBay.

At the end of the day if eBid generated sales I'd sell there, but so far I've seen no evidence including my own tests to suggest that they do.

Yes, I agree absolutely with your analysis. I too have a featured shop, and that £50 a month is money well spent. However, most ebay sellers start small, and only get a shop when they know ebay works for their items, perhaps going to a basic shop on the way.

In that context, a £50 lifetime fee is a big investment against an unknown sales outcome, and I still reckon that many ebid sellers never earn enough to make it a good investment, even if everything else is free.

A site that chases only sellers, and seems to have no interest in buyers, is doomed to stay irrelevant.

I think there are a few observations worth making here.

As some have said fifty quid is nothing and in comparison to eBid's lifetime membership I pay fifty quid a month for my eBay shop!

The problem with eBid is that once they have my fifty notes that's it as far as revenue from me is concerned. If they're very lucky they might get a few listing enhancement fees but as far as profits go I'm no longer a revenue generator.

On eBay they get fifty quid a month from me but they also generate profits from insertion fees and final value fees which together dwarf the monthly £50 shop fee.

Now to me logic says eBay can continue to invest in a couple of hundred thousand professional business sellers and work to attract buyers for others and myself.

If every pro seller on eBay signed up for lifetime membership on eBid they'd have a bumper pay day. Does anyone seriously think that with no further revenue streams from existing sellers (and don't forget they'd have all the serious sellers by then) that they'd still be here in 10 or 15 years time spending on internet, press, PR and offline advertising to attract buyers?

eBay's business model is to build an ongoing stream of revenue, albeit in small chunks from millions of sellers but it's predicable to an extent and is never ending.

eBid's business model is to sell lifetime memberships and they have no way to build an ongoing revenue stream. In fact the time will come where they're so successful in selling memberships one of two things will happen - they'll run out of people to sell to as everyone will be a lifetime member or they'll run out of money trying to keep the site stable and service the enormous pool of sellers who no longer generate revenue.
