Google links random companies to Amazon UK
Google seem to have a few problems deciding which website they should link to for various companies who have “Amazon” in their name.
The Daily Mail reports that a landscaping business called Amazon Garden Services which closed down four years ago has received a deluge of calls intended for Amazon that is the Amazon which Tamebay readers will be more familiar – the ecommerce retailer and marketplace.
The issue appears to be that when consumers searched Google for “Amazon contact number”, on Google Plus presented their old business name and telephone number and worse, the website link Google inserted was amazon.co.uk!
Amazon spokesman say that when made aware of the issue that their legal weenies contacted Google and “Amazon understands the situation has now been resolved”
It all sounds a bit unlikely, so we went searching on the web for Amazon contact numbers and it didn’t take us long to find another business incorrectly linked to Amazon.
This time it’s “Amazon Hair & Beauty”, previously of 21-22 Carlton Place, Southampton but again a business that no longer trades. Even Google have marked the business as “Permanently Closed”. It hasn’t stopped Google adding amazon.co.uk to the Google Plus website link and describing the ex-hairdressing establishment as an “Ecommerce Service”.
Fortunately in this second case the phone number has been disconnected (we checked!), so no one will be deluged with Amazon (ecommerce) support calls. One can’t help wondering how many Google Plus entries are linking to randomly wrong businesses and how (if you’ve not got the might of Amazon behind you) do you get an incorrect Google Plus entry corrected?
