Get your own PayPal.Me personal payment link
Paying back friends and family is about to get easier and faster with a new secure way to pay with PayPal, using just a short personalised link. Registrations opened at 11.00am, so secure your own name now at PayPal.Me before someone else grabs it, to send and receive money on any device.
Last year in the UK, research from PayPal found that Brits were owed an estimated £3.2 billion from casual borrowings by friends, family and colleagues. However, 1 in 5 were found to actually choose to make cutbacks themselves, rather than asking for their money back.
The new PayPal.Me service has been developed to overcome the awkwardness of asking to be paid back. Users can simply ping their customised link to friends and family to request fast and easy payment, whether that’s in Whatsapp, Facebook messenger, text, email or on the web whether they are using a mobile phone, tablet or computer.
Name Your Money with PayPal.Me
To sign up to the new service, simply go to PayPal.Me to register with your PayPal details. You then create your unique link by securing a username. This link can then be shared over social media, email, text and the web to individuals or groups of people to request payment.
In a few quick steps, PayPal users who receive the link from the you can click on the link, log into PayPal, enter the amount and hit send. Anyone clicking the link will need a PayPal account to send money. The money can be immediately transferred to your PayPal account.
PayPal.Me users can also ask for a specific amount by adding this to their link request, for example, PayPal.Me/yourusername/20 and it will automatically populate the field with £20 making it an even faster more convenient experience.
Full T’s and C’s are available on the PayPal.Me website.
PayPal Me (yes me, Chris Dawson!)
I’ve already snagged paypal.me/ChrisDawson, so if anyone wishes to test PayPal.Me and send me some free money do feel free, for instance paypal.me/ChrisDawson/25 will send me £25 – donations from £1 upwards are all welcome, but they won’t be refunded so don’t send me money unless you want me to keep it!
Of course the quicker you register your name the less likely it is that someone else will grab the PayPal.Me URL that you want, so get online and register now. Delay and you could end up with something along the lines of paypal.me/johnsmith1997 or some similarly godawful “personal” URL.
