eBay displays cool inventions with the Innovators Collective
Billed as a way you can “Discover tomorrow’s products today”, eBay in the US have launched the Innovators Collective. It’s a selection, a small selection, of new innovative and inventive items that you may not have seen before.
The look and feel of the pages is good and I particularly like the use of video in some of the listings. The selection of items, though out of reach of many, is interesting and potentially addictive. These are nice things.
There’s a cute video to accompany the launch:
There are several reasons why this is a decent development that the UK site would benefit from. (I hope it’s gonna cross the Atlantic.) eBay is a flexible brand that can accommodate niche collections such as the US eBay site has launched with. It’s a good, small catalogue that attracts a different sort of buyer that are likely big spenders. Hooking them on eBay is no bad thing.
Secondly, the products are shareable and attractive and will likely play well on social media, again bringing in the buyers and traffic. It would be great if it could become a place where brilliant and beautiful things come to be found by the masses in future.
It’s also, once again, an indication of how eBay is thinking. Different shopping audiences can use eBay, curated content has a place, quality buyer experiences are necessary to meet consumer demand. In particular, for me, I am very drawn to the Gramovox product. And that it’s for sale on eBay adds to the kudos of the site.
