Seller Release – Top Rated Seller Reminder

No primary category set

TRS FeateBay’s Top Rated Seller is changing from the 1st of August. Rather than accounts being Top Rated and eBay displaying the Top Rated Seller badge on all your listings, eBay will only display the badge on qualifying Top Rated Listings.

If your listings qualify as Top Rated then they’ll attract a 15% discount on final value fees and get maximum boost in eBay’s Best Match. Account level discounts are scrapped.

Top Tip: Move your P&P costs into your item selling price as the new eBay Top-rated seller discounts will be based on that price

For your listings to qualify as Top Rated you need to offer:

  • Minimum 14 days returns period (mandatory anyway from September)
  • 1 day or same day dispatch
  • An express 24 hour delivery option, and
  • A free domestic delivery option

NB The free delivery option does NOT have to be the first offered – you can order your delivery options in whichever order you wish to present them to your buyers. I’d recommend offering a standard option with an upgrade to 24 hour and a downgrade to free. The majority of buyers won’t even look but will take the first postage option offered, especially on mobile apps.

Top Rated Seller Item Exceptions

You should be aware that items offering “Collection in person” will not receive any Top Rated Seller benefits. Consider removing all collection in person options from your listings.

Additionally if you offer “Freight” you’re excused all criteria bar the requirement to offer a 14-day returns period. You won’t get the badge on your listings, but you will get increased visibility and fee discounts.

New Top Rated Seller account-level requirements

eBay have slightly relaxed the requirements for an account to be considered Top Rated, in the future they will be:

  • Minimum sales value will change from £2,500 to £1,000 in the past 12 months with UK and Irish buyers
  • Maximum percentage or count of 1-star and 2-star detailed seller ratings will be 0.5% or 2
  • Maximum percentage or count of closed cases without seller resolution will remain at 0.3% or 2

  1. Does this mean that if we add a freight option to our listings, we don’t have to offer free P&P to qualify for a discount?

  2. Dont you have to be a power seller to be TRS?If so you need a minimum £2000pa to be a Powerseller so how can you only need £1000 to be TRS?,
I think I must have misunderstood all of this.

  3. Do you still get the TRS rank boost if your free postage option is not the 1st option? I always believed it had to be the 1st postage service, the one with the free postage check box?

and which postage service is used when using the cost + postage filter in the ebay search?

  4. When it says items offering “Collection in person”, does that mean listings that only offer collection as an option, or any listing that includes collection as an option amongst other postage options?

  5. We’ve been updating and streamlining our business policies in advance of this change. We started this process a week ago (ie clicked the buttone to transfer detail on all live auctions), and the automated process is *still* underway.

Whilst business policies should make it really easy to keep a large shop in line with all these changes and right upto the minute with postage prices and policies, if it take a week or more for the policy changes to apply to the listings, then that’s not as good as it seemed.

Hopefully this is just a teething bug (like the fact that the new business policies prevent cash on collection) and all will be resolved, smooth and quick.

  6. Hi
We currently offer free 1st class post and on the qualified listings the fast and free logo is shown. As i understand it if we were to change to free economy post (second class post ) , offer express delivery option, 1 day or same day dispatch and have the 14 day return policy we would remain as a top rated seller but he fast and free logo would not be shown.

Question is, will the fast and free logo be retained and therefore displayed as is now, for those listings that meet all the new criteria with first class post as the free option, as well as being displayed for all first class postal offers whether you are a top seller or not?.

    Thanks
