eBay revamp Daily Deals pages
eBay have revamped the Daily Deals page, it’s now a much shorter landing page with just three categories of deals to pick from – Electronics, Fashion and Home & Garden. There’s a fourth temporary category – Back to University – which suggest this is where we can expect specials such as Christmas promotions to be highlighted.
The deals page feels much less congested with the re-design, but it does mean a little more mouse-work before you get to see anything you can buy – The Deals are now below the fold on many devices. I’m sure eBay have tested, but it seem strange to me that a site for selling doesn’t show some products in the “shop window”, i.e. above the fold on the landing page.
When you scroll past the top banner (currently Back to University deals) and the four menu options (picture menu duplicated in sidebar) you’ll eventually get to the two Daily Deals beneath which you’ll find four top picks and then yet another duplication of the menu.
Those who don’t qualify to have their products on the eBay Deals will be pleased to know that once you get into the Deal categories at the bottom of each page is a link to view all products, these links lead to the Electronics, Fashion and the new Home and Garden shopping experience pages.
Once you’ve browsed the eBay Deals site for a while eBay start guessing what you might be interested in and slot in a “Deals Recommended For You” section above the two daily deals (but still not visible without scrolling) and eBay have decided that I’d like to buy a camera.
I’d be very interested to know what technology is running the recommendations. I doubt that this is an integration of Svpply as eBay have only just acquired the company, but they’ve owned Hunch for almost a year so it’s time the technology popped up somewhere. I’ll be watching eBay’s recommendations with interest to see how well they really do know me.
Overall a nice pretty site, the question is will showing what feels like fewer deals on the landing page impact sales or are deal hunters willing to browse? I’m sure eBay know the answers from their research but what do you think of the new design? Like it? Hate it? Don’t care either way? Let us know in comments below.
