Earn £100 for beta testing a new website
There’s a new financing company getting very close to launching in the UK and Later this summer their web site is set to go live. In the mean time they’re looking for online sellers who are willing to help them beta test their website and make sure everything is working before they go live.
What’s involved is that you’ll sign up as if you were a new customer and enable them to check your eBay and/or your Amazon business, assess your viability for a loan. They’ll actually send you a £200 loan to make sure all the banking processes are working and then ask for the loan to be repaid the next day to ensure their entire service goes smoothly. However they’ll not ask for the full amount to be repaid, just £100 and the balance of £100 you can keep as a reward for your help.
If you’d like to participate then you’ll need to be selling either on eBay, on Amazon, or on both sites – They’re looking for beta testers in all three groups. Your business will have to have been established for at least a year and have a minimum turnover of £15000 per annum.
If you’re interested in becoming a beta tester then simply complete the form to show your interest in becoming a beta tester and they’ll select between 10 and 20 businesses to ensure a mix across the marketplaces.

Forgive my cautious nature, but this has all the hallmarks of a scam. £100 for doing virtually nothing? If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, etc.

Totally understand your cautiousness, but feel free to register your interest and then verify you’re happy before proceeding. They’ll be happy to run through everything with you (and in fact will insist on speaking to you) before you start the test

Hi Guys,
Its Sharon from EZBOB. We are launching our web site later this summer which will be providing financing to e-commerce sellers like yourselves. Our URL is indeed ezbob.com and as soon as it is ready we would like some of you to test it out so we can improve it before we go live.
Sorry for all the confusion.
EZBOB is our trading name and our company name is Orange Money Ltd. We are fully registered with the Office of Fair Trading.
Come visit us when we are up and running.

I agree it does look like a scam or a way of harvesting eBay ID’s & associated Email addresses, as the site e-zoteric.net/.com is based in Israel

Obviously not a scam. Just look at how nice their website looks. /s
Do we actually know anything about this company other than their beta test of a site that is supposed to go live this summer?

Why would the fact that a site is registered in Israel be a cause of concern?

high st banks need to watch out , and about time too

I just looked into this a little further. Chris, you don’t even mention the name of the company that is offering this service. I think most of the people here just assume it is e-Zoteric which is based in Israel. However I have a hunch that this is not the company and rather they are just using them to develop and host their website. If that is the case why can’t an emerging finance company that acts exactly like the classic 419 scam afford its own domain name or even disclose the name of their company or provide any contact information? That background is just a $24 iStock photo http://www.istockphoto.com/stock-photo-18157136-london.php ? Are you sure you didn’t just get social engineered and give credibility to a Nigerian scammer?
Chris Dawson says

It’s really very simple. As st georges dragon says below your eBay ID, Address, Phone number, VAT number and Company Registration number are available for all to see on eBay UK listings from Business Sellers, so you’re giving nothing away that isn’t public knowledge anyway.
As for an email address – use any email address you like that you can access! I’ve got about 30 different eBay accounts and they’ve all got different email addresses so good luck trying to guess which one’s on which eBay account and even if you did know….. so what?
If you’re not interested (or like you don’t qualify) don’t apply. If you want an easy £100 then feel free to check it out further.
By the way – where did you get the images for your websites such as the security cameras? Did you draw them all yourself or were they paid for?

They came from iStockPhoto as well. The point I’m making is that you have all the parts of a 419 scam. All this company has created as far as I can tell is a simple input form and slapped an iStock photo behind it. They don’t even have their own domain name. Those are huge red flags. They have shown nothing yet expect you send them £100 after they send you £200.
On the otherhand I offer a full fledged service, have a 888 number you can find just by Googling “Price Spectre, phone number”, my own domain name, my own SSL certificate, and my own umbrella company behind the product. There are also reviews of it on external websites that I have no control of. But, and this is important, I also don’t go around saying I’ll overpay you and then you give me some of that back. Instead I ask you for your money at the end of the month and if you don’t pay me I cancel your account and let you fend off your competitors all by yourself.
I’m not complaining that they are harvesting data on users. I couldn’t care less about that. I’m pointing out the whole money exchange that is going on. How do they send you that money? Do you receive a cheque in the mail and then you pay them back using those banking details you gave them?
I may not have been clear in my previous message so I’m just going to come out and ask it this time. Do you know the name of the company that you are advertising here? And if you do know did they ask you not to tell anyone?
Finally if anyone here is looking for financing and have doubts about the authenticity of this website there is always iWoca who advertise at TameBay. And for Americans there is Kabbage. Both are established companies and not stealth companies with no name and no domain name.

As I’ve already said those interested (and who qualify which you don’t) can choose to put themselves forward or not. Those that do will get full details. Those (including yourself) who don’t won’t and just because you know how to use the HTML tag for bold text doesn’t mean we’ll bow to your demands.
Reading Tamebay isn’t compulsory. Politeness on Tamebay is.
ebuyerfb says
9:23 am on June 25th, 2012
Chris, please tell me where I’m not being polite here. You haven’t come down on Jimbo, Toby, or Richard who have not said anything I didn’t. Is it the bold words? As the one behind Tamebay you can easily correct that. I use those tags so you and others see specific points I feel are important. People tend to not read blobs of text and just skim but I want to make it clear I repeatedly asked for the company’s name and you didn’t answer.
I think I’ve made my point clear so unless there are further developments this will be my last comment on this subject. I have more important things to do than trying to protect TameBay’s reputation.

Comments 50% longer than the original post trying to pick holes it in and implying we’re stupid enough to write about a company without knowing who

Chris Dawson, I guess we can take it that you know who is behind this and feel that it is legitimate?
I wonder if the company behind the money giveaway are awear of this discussion and may feel it is worth clarifying who they are? The page almost has the feeling of some kind o psychological test to me.
Chris Dawson says

Chris says

Of course there is a way of getting back at them. Many etraders have multiple id’s. Some are long since dead or soon to be dead. Well you just pick an obsolete one and use that to earn £100. As soon as the £100 is safe you kill the id and everything that goes with it.
st georges dragon says
12:17 pm on June 24th, 2012
you would need multiple bank accounts not multiple ids, plus if its a scam your not going to get £100 in the first place
email address tel no and ebay id are available on most ebay listings, plus an address, if its a scam you will need to do more than just fill the contact form in to get suckered

I signed up to see what happened and this morning got the following email:
“Hi,
Thanks you for registering in order to give the new service a try.
I will be reaching out to some of you in the next few days, while contacting other a bit later.
The requested testing procedure includes:
1. registration to the site, adding personal, business information, bank account and granting the site read access to your store information.
2. Once your information is reviewed, and it is seen that you have at least 15K gbp sales per year and more than a year of activity, you will be qualified for 200 gbp of credit.
3. You will be able to log in to your account, and receive the 200 gbp into your bank account
4. One day later, we will debit your debit card with 100 gbp, it is expected that the funds will be in the debit card account.
5. You will be asked to send some written or verbal feedback on the site user experience.
Looking forward to getting your feedback and suggestions on the site and service.
Best regards,
Nimrod Kaplan
Chief Technology Officer – Orange Money”
Where has Orange Money come from? No mention of that name anywhere else?
We will not be providing this company with our debit card details or access to our store sales or any other info for that matter and I’d advise anyone else thinking about it to do the same. If they wanted to check store sales for a seller ID they could do it using Terapeak.
This really does seem to have scam written all over it. If it’s all above board why not publish who this really is?

I’ve seen so many scam companies trade from that Virtual address 145-157 John Street.
Of course I’m not saying that this is a scam company, it’s just I would never do business with a company trading out of the Virtual address 145-157 John Street.

Sorry, Chris, I have to agree with the others this looks VERY scammy.
And, FYI, the danger with Israel is called Hamas, who are short on funds and mat be looking to use some scams for fund raising.
There is no good reason why someone needs your bank information at this point unless its for the purposes of ID theft.
Caution is indicated.
