Whitney Houston death boosts album sales on Amazon and eBay

Whitney Houston fans are expressing their grief at her death by snapping up her music on eBay and Amazon. No doubt there are a few sellers out there too who’s mourning is somewhat tempered by shifting a few albums in their back catalogue.

Amazon’s top music rankings have been dominated today with her music with eight out of the top 10 Best Sellers in Music based on Amazon customer purchases being Whitney albums.

It’s somehow a shame that the death of a superstar instantly makes them more profitable then when they were still alive, but at the end of the day if you’ve got some Whitney memorabilia hanging around that you want to sell there’ll never be a better time than now. Sales on eBay also appear to be pretty brisk, but on both eBay and Amazon interest in Whitney is stronger in the US than the UK, so list your items on Amazon.com and eBay.com instead of European sites.

I can see the point when a great artist(painter or sculpture)dies. After all once they are dead they can never paint or sculpt another work of art. But with a Singer, even a great singer, the record companies carry on making their discs, CD’s, Videos etc. Indeed it is likely that backlist items will go back into production. Indeed it is likely that in the archives there are large numbers of tracks that have been recorded and never issued which can be issued in the future and of course there is enormous potential for future compilations etc. Yet every time somebody dies(Elvis, etc) the market goes bonkers.

Why have ebay not removed the duplicate listings for the same domain name?

Surely a domain can only be registered to one owner?

Some of the listings may be fraudulant with domains not genuinely owned by the seller.

Yup, seems that the price of the music has been raised since her death by Sony:

It is after all one of the two things that we are told is inevitable – Death and Taxes. Of course for st georges dragon’s part of the World there was always “Highlander” from the film(and TV series of the same name) who was destined to live for ever(or until somebody cut his head off)
