Most expensive snowdrop ever sold on eBay

It’s a year since we last spoke about galanthophiles (that’s collectors of snowdrops to you and me!). Last year record prices of £357.00 were being paid for a single Galanthus plicatus ‘E.A.Bowles’ snowdrop bulb. However this year it’s the Galanthus woronowii ‘Elizabeth Harrison’ that’s breaking all the records.

A single Galanthus woronowii snowdrop bulb has just sold on eBay for £725.10, plus a fiver carriage with 42 bids placed on the auction. Apparently it’s a very rare snowdrop featuring “a special yellow ovary and two yellow marks on the sinus”. I think I’ll stick to whatever variety I have in the garden, but if they come up with yellow whatsit marks I’ll be digging them up and sticking them on eBay just in case they’re worth hundreds!
