10 year eBay veteran Rajiv Dutta passed away

I was saddened to hear the news that Rajiv Dutta has passed away today.

Rajiv joined eBay as Finance Director shortly before the company floated on the stock market and then served as VP Finance before becoming President of Skype and then President of PayPal. Rajiv finished his incredible eBay career as President of eBay Marketplaces as well as serving on the Board of Directors.

Over the ten years he was at eBay most buyers and sellers wouldn’t have been aware of his work, but those of us that had the privilege to meet him will remember his drive, humility, imagination and most of all what a simply lovely person he was.

Although Rajiv left eBay in 2008 his work still benefits everyone who uses eBay today. Our thoughts are with his family.

This is so sad. He was such a sweet man, as well as utterly brilliant. What a loss :-(

A very sad loss indeed. I had the pleasure of meeting and presenting to Rajiv on a number of occasions at eBay and he was always considered and full of ideas. I too remember him being presented to the business as the new head of Skype in London and he being so excited at the challenge. An unfair loss at such a relatively young age.

Far too young. A man of intelligence, integrity and warmth and always a good laugh. Sad news indeed.
