Daily Deal brand points to virus sites on Google
by Chris Dawson
Yesterday eBay had a Daily Deal for a Swissler Cutlery Set, priced at £59.99 it appeared a great deal compared to the claimed £600.00 RRP. It’s a great discount, but is a cutlery set really worth £600.00 and would it really be offered at such as massive discount?
Google is of course the de facto place to go to research a product, and that’s just what TameBay reader Peter of Ticket Wiz did. He searched for Swissler Cutlery on Google but I would NOT recommend clicking on any of the search results. Almost all the Google results point directly to virus sites and unless you have up to date anti-virus protection on your computer the sites will download and install malware onto your PC.
Many of the Google search results appear to point to innocent enough looking URLs, but they redirect to totally different website where the viruses attempt to infect your computer.
I should emphasis that the Swissler Cutlery Daily Deal listing page on eBay is totally safe. Just don’t research the product on Google!
Updated to add: I’ve been sent a link to the GENUINE (virus free!) Swissler website where the cutlery is indeed on sale at RRPs even higher than the £600 quoted in the Daily Deal.

Swizzer or ‘Swissler’ cutlery is the stuff they knock out the back of cars in carparks. Typical story..rep just finished a trade show, cant be bothered to take back 18 cases of cutlery through customs blah blah ‘do you want an 500 saucepan for 30 quid?’ ‘look at these beautiful knives..rrp £600 you can take them off my hands for a fifty’
Hook, line and sinker.
Nearly 800 sets sold.
Feedback will be interesting!
My guess is the FB will be good (assuming they ship it quick) this stuff is all about the presentation, the fancy case isnt free, it’s the deal breaker that makes it look fancy, along with the thick embossed paperwork and royal stamp
I fell for the pots & pan trick a while back on eBay, think rrp was around £120 paid £19 for them, took them out the box, laughed, then through them in the garage, I can’t remember which unfortunate relative got them for xmas.
Do you think the seller is dropshipping?
I don’t know, my guess is most deal of the days are dropshipped or done on a sale or return basis with suppliers..most deal of the days don’t sell out, they just keep upping the inventory.
hello…I am in fact the seller of the DAILY DEAL – SWISSLER ROYAL CUTLERY 72 PIECE CUTLERY SET.
We DO NOT drop ship, and these are directly from the factory. None of our deals or any of our orders are drop shipped. Yesterday, we sold 785 sets in under 8 hours, all shipped out of our facility in less than 24 hours.
We did not point any potential customers to any VIRUS websites, surely it must be googles responsibility to monitor websites that are infected.
If you are interested I can give you the actual CLEAN website where these cutlery sets can be viewed at the listed RRP.
Surely, ebay would not just take our word for this price???
RRP’s are a fictional figure, always have been. They’re only designed so that retailers can show huge savings. However, please do post the URL.
Hi Marc, good work btw, well done.
Couple of questions for you if I may, how do you gauge how many you are going to sell if you buy in the stock first?
Why would a famous cutlery manufacturer want to offload 900 sets of cutlery at £60 a pop if it thinks they are worth £600, surely now they have completeley devalued the brand?
As
Hi…thanks for the comments.
Please look at the CLEAN website and it shows the manufacturer’s prices…as you will see they sell sets going up to £1,000+.
We do not gauge how many to purchase…we have many outlets for our goods, so if our company likes a product and it is the right price, we will purchase all available quantity.
With the cutlery sets, the factory approached us with this deal. It was in fast, a cancelled order from a major store, so the factory wanted the product sold.

Thanks for the URL.
I found it earlier in google with
‘swissler royal’.
It appears to be written in German. Fair enough for a ‘Swiss’ company.
Why would google offer to translate for me from Lithuanian?
It sounds like a Swiss Ginsu!
Is it just me or are these two comments from above tooooo similar?:
Whirly: Typical story..rep just finished a trade show, cant be bothered to take back 18 cases of cutlery through customs blah blah

Wise words Whirly, the phrase pole and barge spring to mind…
So where can I go out and buy this stuff?
Either at RRP or some discount.
No cancel that, I have a knife and fork.
Oh and before you say the website, it just seems to be a static list. Not ecommerce.
I am over the moon with my cutlery set .
Bargain !
The Hut seem to have given up on their ID and have started a new one under the name of Zavvi. They have the daily deal AGAIN today….
At least it’s good to see the hut seem to have got there act together a bit, if eBay are going to treat them like gods it’s better for all of us if they do a good job.
They have the daily deal again. I think they have had 3 this week. Very annoying.
By my calculations since November they have had 41% of daily deals.
I wonder if they have got that many going for that spot. Seems to me like it is becoming a bit stale.
Totally agree. I check it everyday to see if any of the deals will affect our sales, and haven’t seen anything interesting for ages.
With eBay demanding such low sale prices for these, all you end up with is tat no-one really wants.
Surely Lino you thought the £9.99 cutlery set was steal of the century
Agree, getting a bit dull. Practically ever day it’s yet another really rubbish Wii game.
+ perfume from last years celebrity.
I fell for that a few months back, I think the wife uses it to keep the drawers fresh
Did you ever get the helecopters going? Mine were DOA
Lasted approx 3 minutes before it got a hair tangled in rotor, crashed and burned.
Still, helicopter better value than digital photo frame, that was so crap I just threw in the bin.
Daily Deals?
You mean a Gerald Ratner moment every day.
Remember him?
